The System Engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for supporting the construction efforts by providing technical support to craft and supervision as well as helping to satisfy quality requirements on the project. Also, initiating action when necessary to ensure the project is being built as specified in the scope of work.\n\nOpen to internal and external candidates.\n\nJob Summary\nSystems Engineers provide engineering functions to support hypersonic wind-tunnel testing at Tunnel 9. The candidate will take ownership of major systems; coordinate facility and equipment improvement projects; follow project lifecycle (planning, budgeting, schedule, execution); perform mechanical design of tunnel components and interface hardware; develop designs and drawing packages; develop thermal-structural stress analysis for wind tunnel components and customer test material; and implement improvements to tunnel performance and maintainability. Further, they will support external customer tests by analyzing thermo-mechanical structural and stress.\n\nJob Duties:\nDesign components of a hypersonic wind tunnel subjected to high thermal and pressure load scenarios.\nWork with Subject Matter Experts to design facility hardware with improved performance.\nMaintain inventory of long lead time consumable components to keep pace with test operations.\nPerform FEA analysis on tunnel hardware and external customer models with specific interest in thermal-structural stresses. Communicate results to internal and external customers to assist in the design process.\nRespond to systems malfunctions in support of troubleshooting and direct corrective maintenance activities, ensuring a timely return to service to continue testing.\nPerform root cause failure analyses and other equipment performance analyses. Recommend improvements to site leadership.\nAnalyze and write reports on equipment design for safety reviews.\nConduct and write up system safety hazard analyses and write clear work instructions.\nUpdate and maintain system documentation for systems of responsibility.\nDevelop scope, cost, and schedule estimates for small improvement projects and test projects.\nAssist skilled technical staff with troubleshooting and oversee their work; provide leadership and guidance.\nDevelop detailed technical statements of work and support the government procurement process as a technical POC.\nCommunicate clearly and utilize various methods of communication.\nIt is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.\nPerform other duties as required.\n\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering\nGrade 07 (M07): A minimum of 2 years of progressive and relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and progressive and relevant experience.\nGrade 08 (M08): A minimum of 5 years of progressive and relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and progressive and relevant experience.\nExperience using solid modeling CAD software.\nExperience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA).\nMust be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and the AEDC local area network.\nCurrent U.
