Organizes and oversees the gathering of products, checking of products, quality assurance and commitment to deadlines. Assigns motor vehicles and drivers for conveyance of customer orders.\n\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nPrepares work schedules to ensure that sufficient shift personnel are available for workload demands. Assigns duties and examines work for conformance to policies and procedures.\nReviews dispatch operations to identify technical and operational training needs and recommend operational improvements. Reviews and recommends modifications to computer-aided dispatch systems.\nTests, inspects, and operates radio, telephone, computer, and other equipment as needed.\nPrepares, reviews, and maintains reports, statistics, and records.\nPerforms the work of subordinate dispatch personnel as needed.\nMeets with committees and other interested groups to develop, review, and update policies and procedures for dispatch operations.\nMaintains list of available vehicles. Assigns vehicles according to factors such as length and purpose of trip, freight requirements, and preference of user. Issues keys, record sheets, and credentials to drivers.\nRecords time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return for all deliveries.\nInvestigates overdue vehicles.\nDirects activities of drivers by two-way radio.\nConfers with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged merchandise.\nMaintains record of mileage, fuel used, repairs made, and other expenses.\nEstablishes service or delivery routes.\nAssigns helpers to drivers.\nReviews work orders from departments or complaints from customers, and records type and scope of service to be performed.\nDetermines and schedules orders according to urgency.\nContacts supply storekeeper to verify availability of parts and equipment to ensure scheduled work performance.\nReceives check in calls from delivery workers by radio, telephone, or in person.\nInforms workers of type and location of work to be performed and dispatches workers to job.\nKeeps records of repairs, installation and hours required on each job.\nAssigns orders to lift operators to be pulled from inventory.\nOther duties as assigned.\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.\n\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.\n\nAssociate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.\n\nCOMPETENCIES\n\nAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.\nAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.\nAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.\nAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.\nAbility to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.\nAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.\nAbility to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.\nWORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITY\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
