Central Shop Mechanic l or ll

Mechanic l: Grade 11 ($21.97 - $30.80 DOE): Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License. Must obtain a Class B Utah CDL within twelve (12) months of hire date. Mechanic ll: Grade 13 ($24.18 - $33.96 DOE): Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have a minimum of five (5) years' experience as a certified mechanic. Must possess a Class B Utah CDL. Must be licensed by the State of Utah as a vehicle inspector with passenger/ light truck/tractor/trailer/bus endorsements. Must be licensed in Emission Testing by the Utah County Health Department. Must be licensed in mobile vehicle A/C systems EPA requirement. Must be licensed in commercial vehicle brake systems DOT, CVSA and FMHA requirement. Must be highly experienced in reading diagrams and manuals for vehicle repair. ASE Master certifications in automotive or heavy-duty vehicle. Department: EngineeringInternal Services Position Reports to: Central Shop Supervisor Pay Grade: 11/13 Employment Type: Full-time Exempt/Nonexempt: Non-exempt Description: Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor, is responsible for maintenance and repair of all City Fleet owned vehicles and equipment as they are serviced at the Central Shop location. Duties: Performs preventative maintenance on all fleet vehicles and equipment. Diagnoses, services, and repairs all classes of vehicles and equipment in the fleet. Performs welding and fabricating work as needed. Performs heavy equipment and systems repairs, i.e. hydraulics, air, and electrical on both gasoline and diesel power systems. Performs small engine and pump repair, maintenance, and service. Maintains proper inventory of parts and equipment, along with part orders as directed by Shop Supervisor. Maintains records of all work performed on fleet and equipment. Responds to road and work site emergencies. Must provide own tools (monthly tool allowance provided). All other duties as assigned. Qualifications: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Must be skilled in the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles and heavy machinery. Must have the ability to maintain legible and accurate records. Must be skilled and proficient in layout, fabrication, and welding of all types. Must have a knowledge of mechanic safety procedures. Must be adept in establishing priority of work. Must have excellent communication skills. Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, walk, stand on concrete floors, asphalt, and works yard; bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and crawl as needed to repair vehicles and equipment; reach below, at, and above shoulder height to repair vehicles; ability to insert hand(s) into confined, secured areas of vehicles and equipment. Needs sufficient strength to use hand, power, and air tools. Must be able to climb, stand, and balance on ladders, vehicles, and equipment to perform the repairs; work above the shoulders in a cervical extension from a stand, bend, stoop, crouch, or kneel position; and work unabated under, as needed, vehicles and equipment while they are on the hoist or the shop floor.
