Career and Academic Pathways Advisor Office of Career Pathways Reports to: Director of Career Pathways Collaborates Closely With: Director of Academic Advising Position Summary The Career and Academic Pathways Advisor serves as a professional support team member within the Office of Career Pathways, supporting students in academic planning, assisting students in career exploration, career readiness, experiential learning, and professional development. Reporting to the Director of Career Pathways and collaborating closely with the Director of Academic Advising, this role provides individualized career coaching support, facilitates workshops and programming, assists with employer engagement initiatives, and helps supervise and mentor Peer Career Mentors. The Advisor assists students with academic and career decision-making, course planning, experiential learning opportunities, and professional preparation while contributing to student success, retention, persistence, and post-graduate outcomes. The position also supports university-wide recruitment and retention initiatives, including orientation and student success programming. The Advisor plays an important role in helping students develop the confidence, skills, and experiences necessary to pursue careers of choice, not jobs of necessity. Primary ResponsibilitiesCareer Pathways Advising:Provide one-on-one support to students related to:Resume and cover letter developmentInternship and job search strategiesLinkedIn and professional brandingInterview preparation and mock interviewsCareer exploration and experiential learning opportunitiesAcademic Advising and Student Success:Assist students in developing educational plans and selecting courses aligned with degree requirements and career goalsSupport students in exploring academic majors and career pathwaysProvide academic advising and student success support through in-person, virtual, and electronic communication methodsGuide students through registration and schedule planning using Workday StudentSupport orientation, recruitment, retention, and other student success initiativesAssist with the implementation of Career Pathways programming, including:Career Fairs, Employer Panels, Professionalism Workshops, Networking Events, Classroom Presentations, Student Success and Career Readiness ProgrammingSupport students using career and advising platforms and tools including:Workday Student, LinkedIn, Handshake, Focus 2, Forage, Parker DeweyAssist in tracking student engagement, appointments, experiential learning participation, and advising interactionsHelp train, mentor, and provide leadership support to Peer Career MentorsRepresent the Office of Career Pathways at campus events and employer engagement activitiesAssist with marketing and communication efforts, including social media, newsletters, and promotional materialsSupport special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the Director and Associate Director and in collaboration with the Director of Academic Advising QualificationsBachelor's degree requiredStrong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skillsPassion for student development, career readiness, and workforce preparationAbility to build relationships with students, faculty, staff, and employersStrong organizational and customer service skillsExperience with mentoring, leadership, coaching, or student engagementFamiliarity with career development platforms, student information systems, and Microsoft OfficeExperience with Workday Student or similar student systems Work Environment This position works collaboratively within the Office of Career Pathways and Academic Advising to support holistic student success. The role may require occasional evening or campus-wide events related to employer engagement, career education, and student success initiatives.
