As a Staff Data Engineer, you will lead the evolution of our data infrastructure, optimizing pipelines on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), scaling ingestion of complex data sources, and establishing best practices for performance and reliability. Most Staff level engineers at Fastly have at least 7 years of related experience.\nAdvanced proficiency in Python, SQL, Airflow, and Google Cloud Platform services (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, etc.)\nExperience building data ecosystems that power broad organizational and operational decision making.\nDemonstrated experience as a technical leader - leading full lifecycle initiatives, driving long term roadmaps, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, influencing engineering best practices, and mentoring team members, etc.\nExperience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and container orchestration with Kubernetes\nStrong understanding of data warehousing concepts and experience optimizing queries and performance in platforms like BigQuery\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a distributed team environment\n\nWe’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:\nRelated tech industry experience or experience in transferable industries - i.e. e-commerce, technical research or incubators, etc.\nExperience in small to mid-size organizations where you have hands on experience and decision making input on building and expanding the data ecosystem\nExperience working closely with data analysts and business analysts to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions\nFamiliarity with distributed systems and big data tools (e.g., Clickhouse, Kafka)\n\nWork Hours:\nThis position will require you to be available during core business hours and participate in an on-call rotation.\n\nWork Location(s) & Travel Requirements:\nThis position is open to the following preferred office location:\nSan Francisco\nFastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.\n\nSF / LA Fair Chance Ordinance Statement\nPursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.\n\nSalary:\nThe estimated salary range for this position is $181,220.00 - $217,464.00\nStarting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.\nThis role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.\n\nBenefits:\nWe care about you.
