Senior Parts SpecialistThe City of Olathe is seeking a Senior Parts Specialist to support Fleet Services by managing and controlling parts room inventory for the City's diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. In this essential role, you will help ensure the right parts are available for scheduled maintenance and repairs by maintaining appropriate inventory levels, supporting cost-effective purchasing, and keeping system workflows accurate and timely.The Senior Parts Specialist plays an important role in supporting the vehicles and equipment that keep City services operating efficiently. Working closely with technicians, supervisors, vendors, purchasing staff, and other departments, you will help minimize downtime, maintain service levels, and contribute to safe, reliable operations across the organization. If you are organized, detail-oriented, and committed to customer service and operational excellence, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in local government.What You'll DoManage parts procurement, including locating, purchasing, receiving, issuing, and tracking parts for City vehicles and equipmentMaintain accurate and sustainable inventory levels through regular counts, documentation, and analysis to support scheduled service needs and minimize downtimeOversee parts-related system workflows, including item requests, work order charges, purchase orders, expense reports, and warranty or backorder trackingCoordinate with supervisors, technicians, vendors, purchasing staff, and other departments to ensure timely parts availability and cost-effective sourcingProvide input on bid processes to support efficient and economical purchasing decisionsKeep the parts room and related work areas organized, safe, and compliant with City standardsSupport Fleet Services operations during after-hours emergencies, as neededWhat We're Looking ForAt least five years of experience managing a vehicle and equipment parts inventory valued at more than $250,000, including acquisition and purchasing processesProgressive experience in the acquisition of automotive and heavy truck partsExperience using FASTER or a comparable computerized inventory or fleet management systemMechanical experience with both on-road and off-road equipment preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent required, supplemented by specialized training in computerized inventory control systemsValid driver's license with a favorable driving record requiredForklift Certification and ASE P1 (Medium-Heavy Parts Specialist) and ASE P2 (Automotive Parts Specialist) certifications required within the first year of employmentHourly Rate:$28.00 - $33.20, based on experience and qualificationsBenefits: Competitive benefits package including 8 weeks of paid parental leave, healthcare, retirement contributions, and professional development opportunities.
