Lead Estimator - Heavy Civil Infrastructure Alexandria, Virginia (DC Metro Area) Permanent | Full-Time Total Compensation: $180,000 - $220,000 (Base + Bonus) Shape the Future of America's Most Complex Infrastructure We are partnering with one of North America's most respected heavy civil contractors to appoint a Lead Estimator for their Northern Virginia operations. This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior estimating role where field experience, constructability, and engineering judgment matter just as much as numbers. You'll be working on some of the most technically challenging bridge, tunnel, marine, and underground projects in the US. This role is ideal for a "builder who estimates" - someone who understands how projects are actually built and can translate that knowledge into winning bids for major design-build and alternative delivery projects. You'll be leading estimates on mega-projects including: Large-scale rail bridges & passenger rail expansionsHighway widening & complex interchange upgradesMarine structures, dam works & underwater constructionUnderground tunneling & deep civil infrastructure The current and future pipeline includes multi-billion-dollar design-build pursuits across Virginia, DC, and the surrounding region. What You'll Do Lead Major Heavy Civil BidsOwn full estimates for bridges, tunnels, dams, marine and underground worksDrive pricing strategy on complex, high-risk scopes Engineering & ConstructabilityDevelop temporary works concepts (shoring, cofferdams, falsework)Evaluate make-vs-buy strategies and self-perform opportunitiesBuild schedules, production rates, and pricing models Collaboration & LeadershipWork closely with operations, engineering, and design partnersSupport bid closeouts, proposal submissions, and site investigationsMentor estimators and influence bid strategy at the highest level What You Bring10+ years' experience in heavy civil construction, ideally starting as a Field EngineerStrong background in bridges, marine works, tunneling, or complex concrete structuresProven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary estimatesProficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, Hard Dollar, Bluebeam or similarBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction ManagementStrong commercial judgment, leadership skills, and technical credibility Why This Opportunity?Bid and win some of the most complex infrastructure projects in the USWork with a contractor known for self-performing and solving the hardest problemsBe part of a long-term strategy to deliver the next generation of mega-projectsCombine engineering, field knowledge, and leadership at the highest level Ready to price, plan, and win landmark infrastructure projects?
