This position is responsible for the daily oversight of construction materials testing and inspection activities on active construction sites to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. Ideal candidates will demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to travel across multi-states to various job sites as needed.\nKey Responsibilities\nPerform field testing of construction materials using a 40-pound nuclear density gauge\nObtain concrete samples from ready-mix trucks and prepare concrete test cylinders\nConduct concrete testing and transport samples to the laboratory for further analysis\nCollect, document, and deliver soil samples from job sites to the laboratory\nObserve construction activities and accurately record performance data\nPerform visual inspections of reinforcing steel (rebar)\nMaintain detailed daily field diaries documenting project activities\nPrepare and submit daily reports and required documentation to the Team Leader in accordance with project specifications\nEnsure quality and quantity standards are met on all assigned work\nProactively review project documents and testing procedures to understand technical requirements\nCommunicate professionally and ethically with clients, contractors, and team members\nMaintain company-owned equipment in safe, proper working condition\nReport any required corrective actions to the Team Leader to ensure work quality meets company standards\nFollow all written procedures, company policies, and safety requirements\nComplete field activities and reports accurately and in a timely manner\nPerform all duties in a professional, ethical manner\nAdditional Responsibilities\nEstablish personal goals for continuous improvement and job performance\nMaintain reliable, punctual, and regular attendance\nAttend and actively participate in safety meetings and training programs\nPerform other duties as assigned\nQualifications\nMinimum Requirements\nHigh school diploma or equivalent\nMinimum of six (6) months of construction materials testing experience\nACI Level I Certification (or ability to obtain)\nNuclear Gauge Certification\nAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing\nValid driver's license\nAbility to read and write in English\nWillingness to travel to various job sites as required\nLevel and compensation commensurate with experience\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to work flexible schedules and overtime as required by operational needs\nAbility to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds\nAbility to safely operate a company vehicle\nAbility to push or pull up to 400 pounds using a wheelbarrow\nAbility to walk, stoop, bend, climb stairs and ladders\nAbility to work on uneven terrain including concrete, gravel, dirt, and grass\nAbility to work at elevated heights and in open structures\nAbility to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions\nAbility to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)\nAbout Thompson Engineering\nFounded in 1953, Thompson Engineering provides quality assurance and professional services for construction projects supporting industrial, infrastructure, and community development.
