Break into the amazing world of satellites. This software engineering position is a mid-level position creating the next generation of satellite spaceflight safety systems. Our senior-level programmers will lead teams of mid-level and junior developers designing and coding software that protects satellites from various hazards in space. Programmers will be taught the technical complexities and processes in supporting multiple satellite constellations at the peak of U.S. satellite technology, and work to modify code to allow for microservice transactions and scalability. This software will support all phases of satellite life cycle from development, launch, operations, anomaly troubleshooting, passivation, and reentry. Programmers will team with senior scientists, mid-level engineers, and partner organizations to develop their skills and build them into members of the best spaceflight safety operations team.\n\nResponsibilities:\nStrong understanding of Java and object-oriented programming principles.\nBasic knowledge of database systems (SQL and/or NoSQL) and data modeling.\nReview, package, and update software to screen satellite orbits for hazards.\nInterface with multiple teammates to develop applications to provide data to a scalable cloud service platform.\nAbility to work well in a team environment as well as independently.\nStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.\nLearn space operations and how the code supports satellite constellations and operations.\nSupport and plan Agile sprints to break software development tasks into logical and efficient software packages supporting a wide variety of satellite safety tasks.\nWork with advanced analysts and system tier support to create procedures in support of ongoing operations.\nPrepare and give briefings to mid and senior-level management on program increments supporting satellite and space-related activities\nEvaluate incoming scientific data for reasonableness.\nBe adaptable to changing priorities in an operations environment.\nWork is 100% on-site and cannot be accomplished remotely.\n\nMinimum Requirements:\nUS Citizenship required\nSecurity Clearance: active Top Secret / SCI security clearance with a willingness to take a CI Polygraph required\nEducation: Bachelor's degree with 0-2 years of experience in software engineering or software development with Java\n\nDesired Qualifications:\nOracle Java Certification (or equivalent)\nCertified Kubernetes Application Developer (or equivalent)\nRed Hat Linux experience\nExperience with development tools such as Git, Maven, and Jenkins\nFamiliarity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX.\nWindows experience\nStrong skill set with Jira\nStrong skill set with Confluence\nScaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification or experience\nExperience serving government customers\n\nCompany Overview:\nOmitron is an Aerospace Engineering and Information Technology small business firm headquartered in Beltsville, Maryland with a field office located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
