This position provides systems administration and technical support within engineering, laboratory, and research computing environments supporting NASA's mission.\n\nThe ideal candidate will have broad systems administration experience across *Linux, Windows, and macOS environments*, with the ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical issues, support scientific software applications, maintain server and storage infrastructure, and address system security requirements.\n\nThis position offers some telework flexibility; however, candidates should expect a *significant onsite presence at NASA Langley Research Center*.\n\nPrimary Responsibilities\n\n* Provide end-user and systems support for Linux, Windows, and macOS workstations.\n* Administer Linux and Windows server environments.\n* Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot complex scientific and engineering software packages.\n* Proactively monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.\n* Perform and maintain system backups and support data recovery requirements.\n* Identify and resolve system security issues, including operating system and application patching.\n* Assist with system risk analysis, security planning, and implementation of IT security requirements.\n* Monitor and assist with the administration of enterprise storage systems.\n* Support SAN and NAS environments and technologies including RAID, NFS, and LUNs.\n* Troubleshoot basic network and connectivity issues.\n* Provide technical support to users and track incidents and service requests through an established ticketing system.\n* Develop scripts and utilize command-line tools to improve system administration, automation, and operational efficiency.\n* Develop, maintain, and update technical and system documentation.\n* Work directly with customers to identify technical requirements and resolve system issues.\n* Collaborate with technical teams while also independently managing assigned responsibilities with minimal day-to-day supervision.\n\nBasic Qualifications\n\n* U.S. Citizenship is required.\n* Ability to obtain and maintain a NASA Public Trust.\n* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline and a minimum of *4 years of relevant professional experience*.\n* Advanced systems administration experience with Linux, Windows, and/or macOS environments.\n* Strong Linux command-line and scripting experience.\n* Experience performing system backups and supporting recovery processes.\n* Working knowledge of IT security best practices, system patching, and vulnerability remediation.\n* Understanding of enterprise storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, RAID, NFS, and LUN concepts.\n* Working knowledge of basic networking concepts and troubleshooting.\n* Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and resolve technical problems.\n* Strong written and verbal communication skills.\n* Strong customer service and customer relations skills.\n* Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical users.\n* Strong technical documentation skills.\n* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative technical team.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n* Current NASA Public Trust.\n* Previous NASA or other federal government experience.\n* Experience supporting research computing, scientific computing, engineering, or laboratory environments.\n* Experience with VMware ESXi and vCenter or similar enterprise virtualization technologies.\n* Experience with hybrid cloud implementations or cloud migration initiatives.\n* Experience implementing, administering, or securing Kubernetes environments.\n* Experience developing and maintaining Ansible playbooks.\n* Experience using Git or GitLab repositories in a collaborative development or infrastructure environment.\n* Experience supporting enterprise server and storage environments.\n* Experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure environments.\n\nDesired Certifications\n\nCertifications are *not required*, but relevant industry certifications are highly valued, including:\n\n* Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)\n* Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)\n* Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)\n* CompTIA Security+\n* CompTIA Server+\n* Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate\n* AWS Certified Solutions Architect\n* AWS Certified SysOps Administrator\n* Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate\n* Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert\n\nWork Environment\n\nThis position supports NASA engineering, laboratory, and research computing operations at *NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia*.
