Lab Coordinator
The Opportunity (Full-time, San Francisco)This position is the first dedicated hire at Taxa for laboratory operations, administrative logistics, and general operations. This role is broad in scope and ideal for someone who is organized, resourceful, and eager to learn. You will run our lab, ensuring experiments run smoothly, and the lab stays safe, stocked, and ready for science. You’ll coordinate time-sensitive shipments, maintain lab organization, handle purchasing and inventory, support scientists with hands-on tasks, and establish the dozens of essential systems that keep our operations moving. You’ll learn the inner workings of a cutting-edge biotech organization, collaborating daily with scientists and engineers across microbiology, molecular biology, and manufacturing.This role demands both precision and initiative: the ability to anticipate needs, switch contexts quickly, and take full ownership of the physical and logistical backbone of the lab. It is perfect for an early-career professional who thrives in service of a team, wants to learn directly from experienced scientists, and is eager to dive into the center of a fast-moving biotech startup.Required Qualifications✔️ Hands-on lab experience — 3+ years of academic or industry experience working in a biology lab. Strong understanding of microbiology techniques (PCR, bacterial cultures, sterile technique) and a willingness to learn lab-specific procedures.✔️ Known for exceptional organization — teammates naturally comment on how you’re obsessively organized, and always keep things labeled, tracked, and orderly.✔️ Initiative and ownership — you don’t wait for tasks to appear, and don't procrastinate. You proactively clean things up and execute on things that must be done.✔️ Adaptability — comfortable switching between scientific, logistical, and administrative contexts, from coordinating reagent shipments to troubleshooting a backorder to organizing a team offsite, all in the same day.✔️ Full on-site availability — this is a fully in-person role at our San Francisco lab.✔️ Authorized to work in the U.S. — visa sponsorship is not available for this role.Highly Desirable Experience✔️ Inventory and purchasing — 3+ years of experience ordering reagents and consumables, maintaining up-to-date inventories of perishable reagents, and managing lab vendor communications.✔️ Safety and compliance — 3+ years of experience managing EH&S, biological waste disposal, and adherence to biosafety practices.✔️ Logistics — experience with handling time-sensitive incoming/outgoing domestic and international shipments of biological material, scheduling visits, and managing equipment/facility maintenance schedules.✔️ Administrative support — experience scheduling appointments, processing documents, and organizing events.Transparent Compensation✔️ Base salary — $80,000 annual salary.✔️ Benefits — comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.✔️ Retirement — 401(k) plan with 6% employer match.
