You will be experienced in planning and designing physical network infrastructure (dark fiber, colocation and ISP cabling), optical transport technologies, backbone network engineering design principles, and you will have good market knowledge of network infrastructure providers in your region. This role requires extensive collaboration, driving strategic planning initiatives, designing high-availability solutions at scale, and delivering precise documentation. You will actively drive backbone infrastructure solutions within your designated region, working with Business Developers, suppliers, technology partners, as well as Amazon networking teams to meet our customers’ demands.\n\nKey job responsibilities\n\nAct as the Americas (North America and South America) cross regional subject matter expert on topology change management and infrastructure demand planning.\n\nCollaboratively develop network infrastructure execution plans in partnership with Business Developers that involve leased wavelengths, dark fibre and submarine cable capacity/builds.\n\n- Develop strategic regional backbone network plans for approval by internal customers and stakeholders, with a focus on short-, medium- and long-term needs\n\nWork with network engineering to ensure that the highest degree of design consistency, network efficiency, cost optimization, and long-term scalability of the backbone network is delivered.\n\nCompile topology information and performance metrics and make recommendations for improvements based on their findings.\n\nManage network change (migrations) as our network evolves to support increased traffic volumes and geographic expansion.\n\nTranslate backbone and edge forecasts into actionable network infrastructure projects.\n\nOwn network availability, performance and remediation plans to address non-compliance.\n\nDocument the physical infrastructure of the rest of world backbone infrastructure\n\nA day in the life\nThe Planner role focuses on driving backbone performance improvements and managing network planning across AMER region. Daily activities include coordinating with Business Development and Network Engineering teams to develop infrastructure plans, analyse performance metrics, and implement optimization strategies. You'll maintain topology documentation, manage network changes, and serve as a subject matter expert for cross-regional planning. The role requires strong analytical skills to translate forecasts into actionable projects while ensuring network efficiency and cost optimization.
