Assistant Program Coordinator - Nature on Wheels
Are you seeking to further your career in environmental and outdoor education? Outdoor Classroom is seeking an Assistant Program Coordinator (APC) for our Nature on Wheels program this spring. The APC will work closely with the Program Coordinator (PC) to assist in administrative tasks and support the day-to-day operation of the program. This position primarily focuses on administrative duties, with teaching responsibilities on an as-needed basis. The APC will also collaborate with the PC to train and provide support to our traveling outdoor education instructors.Who We AreOutdoor Classroom is the largest outdoor education program in the Northeast, dedicated to experiential education with a focus on science, nature, outdoor living skills, and social-emotional learning. We offer transformative programming for thousands of elementary and middle school students annually in the northeastern United States.ResponsibilitiesAssist the Program Coordinator in contacting schools and creating schedulesBook staff accommodations when necessaryAssisting in staff training by helping create the training schedule, teaching classes, and leading training sessionsOversee the organization and maintenance of program suppliesSupport instructors, and giving feedback when appropriateObserve instructors teach when necessaryHelp with curriculum enhancements and improvementsHelp with weekly staff assignmentsAssist in other administrative duties as assigned by the Program CoordinatorAct as lead instructor when assignedTeach as needed based on bookings and if instructors are sickMust live in provided housing during the program seasonWork scheduleMonday through Friday each week of the spring season with some travel on Sundays. The APC will help the PC with staff training starting on April 27, and the season ends on June 5.Salary & BenefitsThe APC is paid $735 per week. Shared accommodation is provided. (Service animals only. Sorry, no ESAs.) Mileage reimbursement with carpooling perks for work-related travel. Hotels, Airbnb, or rooms at Outdoor Classroom's residential sites are arranged when working with schools located far from your home base.QualificationsYou must have experience working with elementary and middle school students, preferably in an educational or outdoor setting. We are looking for candidates who have some leadership or staff management experience. The APC must possess a reliable vehicle for traveling to schools and parks throughout New England and eastern New York.
