Job Title: School Secretary/Administrative AssistantReports to: PrincipalReceives Guidance From: Principal and/or Assistant Principal(s) and CounselorsOvertime Status: Compliant with position, salary and FLSA regulationsJob PurposeTo assist the Principal/Assistant Principal and Counselors to carry out more effectively the duties and responsibilities of the School's office to the ultimate benefit for the district's/schools's entire educational programTo contribute to the efficient operation of a district school office so that it can play its effective part in the education processQualificationsPossesses a high school diploma or equivalent; must have computer experience and be proficient in Word Processing;possesses a high level of interpersonal skills,maintains district's high standards for personal appearance and dress;courteous and tactful in dealing with people;professional telephone manner; maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times;able to work in Windows or current computer operating system, and familiar with such programs as Google, Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, as well as SAMS and MSIS;able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. copier, adding machine, fax, etc.)Uses appropriate grammar and syntax – verbal and writtenMust complete fingerprinting process administered by district and pass background check prior to employment;must fill out the Child Abuse Registry Check FormDuties And ResponsibilitiesProtects educational process at all timesKeeps all information relating to school situations strictly confidentialPerforms general secretarial functions such as: copying, filing, mailing, faxing, letters, typing documents/memos, delivering mail, etc.Answers telephone, taking and delivering messages to the appropriate peopleUpdates SAMS / MSIS data on a daily basis as assigned by the PrincipaLFulfills all other functions related to the school office as designated by the Principals or Assistant PrincipalObtains substitutes for teachers for professional leave, personal leave, or illness if needed, keeping accurate attendance records regarding all such leaves of absenceMaintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable useUndergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy proceduresMaintain confidentialityRegular, dependable, in person attendance is an essential function of this positionPerform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policyRead, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, all other district, state and federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by LCSD and the Mississippi Educator Code of ConductSUPERVISIONImplements the established school-wide security planPARENTSCommunicates school and organizational goals periodically throughout the school yearCOMMUNITYPromotes the district's vision, mission, and goals within the communityPROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTParticipates in activities that will enhance his/her personal skillsGENERALStudies and follows district policies applicable to the operation of a school as established by the Board of EducationSupervises and maintains upkeep and cleanliness of facilitiesFollows any further rules or requirements as set forth by the PrincipalPerforms any other tasks as required by the PrincipalPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
