Position SummaryPosition Summary: The Director of Safety serves as a member of the leadership team and provides platform-wide oversight of health, safety, and regulatory compliance across business units. This role leads a multidisciplinary safety organization, directly manages safety leaders, and sets strategic direction to ensure regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and a strong culture of safety across all operations.Position ResponsibilitiesDeveloping and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support consistent, compliant safety practicesMaintaining health and safety databases across the organization, including client-specific safety platforms and requirementsDeveloping, reviewing, and regularly updating project-specific Health and Safety Plans to ensure regulatory compliance and risk mitigationServing as a senior leader responsible for platform-wide safety strategy and governanceProviding direction and mentoring to safety managers, and field safety professionalsEnsuring compliance with OSHA, MSHA, environmental, and state/federal regulatory requirementsAdvising the CEO and executive leadership on safety risk, performance, and mitigation strategiesOverseeing incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action programsEstablishing KPIs, dashboards, and reporting structures for safety performance and regulatory complianceLeading company-wide safety culture initiatives and continuous improvement effortsPartnering with operations, legal, and project leadership to integrate safety into business strategyCollaborating with Human Resources to ensure OSHA reporting and compliance, workers compensation and injury case management for work-related incidents and other matters.Leads and directly supervises safety team members of senior safety leaders and field safety professionals, with authority over safety policy, staffing, budgeting, and performance management.Additional responsibilities, as assigned.QualificationsKey Capabilities: Establishes and executes a company-wide safety, health, and compliance strategy aligned with business objectivesSets governance structures, policies, and standards across diverse operating environmentsIntegrates safety into corporate decision-making and long-term planningLeads, mentors, and develops senior safety leaders and direct reportsBuilds high-performing, accountable safety teams across office, field, and remote operationsAnticipates regulatory changes and proactively adapts organizational practicesIdentifies, assesses, and mitigates enterprise-level safety and operational risksChampions a strong, consistent safety culture across all business units driving behavioral safety and accountability frameworksEstablishes safety KPIs, dashboards, and reporting for executive and Board reviewUses data and leading indicators to drive proactive risk reductionManages internal and external communications related to safety mattersEnsures safety commitments are upheld even under operational pressureMaintains transparency with executives, employees, and the BoardExperience/Education/Licensing & Certification RequirementsBachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Engineering, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.Minimum of 10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience, including senior-level oversight and direct management of safety teams.CSP certification strongly preferred.PE license a plus.Leadership-level reporting and regulator engagementPhysical RequirementsAbility to travel frequently to office and project sites (may include remote locations)Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, and high-visibility clothing as neededAbility to sit or stand for extended periods while reviewing reports, attending meetings, or working at a computer
