From preconstruction through completion, our focus is simple: plan it right, execute it well, and deliver results.Job SummaryThe Project Engineer is a key member of the Operations team, supporting the successful planning and execution of demolition, environmental, site development, and underground utility projects from award through closeout. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure projects remain organized, on schedule, within budget, and compliant with contract requirements.The Project Engineer serves as a critical link between the field and office, assisting with project documentation, cost tracking, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, procurement, and project controls while gaining hands-on experience in all phases of construction operations.Duties and Responsibilities:Support Project Managers and Superintendents in the planning, execution, and closeout of assigned projectsPrepare, track, and manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings, and material approvalsMaintain complete and organized project documentation, including contracts, change orders, meeting minutes, and correspondenceAssist with project startup activities, including contract review, scope alignment, and project setupMonitor project schedules and coordinate with project teams to identify and address potential delaysAssist with procurement activities and coordinate material deliveries, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliersTrack labor, equipment, subcontractor, and material costs and maintain project cost logsSupport preparation of monthly billings, cost projections, forecasts, and change order requestsParticipate in project startup, progress, coordination, and closeout meetingsConduct jobsite visits to verify work progress, quality standards, and compliance with project requirementsAssist with project reporting, schedule updates, and production trackingCoordinate with accounting to support project billing, job cost management, and subcontractor invoicingEnsure project documentation complies with company standards and client requirementsAssist with punch list completion and project closeout documentationBuild and maintain positive working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teamsSupport estimating efforts through quantity takeoffs, field verification, bid support, and historical cost trackingParticipate in operations meetings and support continuous improvement of project processes and proceduresSupport company safety initiatives and help ensure compliance with project-specific safety requirementsRequired Skills and Abilities:Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneouslyHigh attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, reporting, and cost trackingAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skillsEffective written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively across multiple teamsProfessional demeanor when interacting with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and team membersAbility to prioritize tasks and perform effectively in a fast-paced environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPointAdvanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat or similar document management toolsExperience with Viewpoint, InEight, HCSS, or similar construction management software preferredFamiliarity with construction scheduling, project controls, and cost tracking systems preferredEducation and Experience:3 to 5 years of experience in the construction industry preferredExperience supporting project management, field operations, or engineering teams preferredFamiliarity with demolition, environmental, site development, or heavy civil construction projects preferredKnowledge of California construction regulations, safety requirements, and industry best practices preferredOSHA 30 certification preferredWorking ConditionsThis position is based in our Newark office and is not eligible for remote workRegular travel to project sites throughout Northern California is requiredWork is performed in both office and construction site environmentsRequires frequent use of computers, project management software, and standard office equipmentMay involve walking active construction sites, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrainMust be able to wear required personal protective equipment while visiting project sitesFERMA will provide reasonable accommodations as required by the ADA and applicable state lawDisclaimerThe duties and responsibilities listed above are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed in this role.
