The Sr. Software Developer, System Software will provide advanced support for the operation, sustainment, performance, and security of system software across USCG’s aviation logistics enterprise.\nThis senior-level role focuses on the stability, integrity, and performance of software that underpins logistics, maintenance, and supply chain systems. The developer will serve as a technical lead for ongoing remediation, modernization of legacy systems, and rapid issue resolution in a 24x7 operational environment. Emphasis is placed on supporting mission continuity, managing real-time system performance, and ensuring compliance with evolving cybersecurity standards.\nPrimary Responsibilities:\nLead support and sustainment activities for system-level software across Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), VMware, and Kubernetes environments.\nMonitor application and infrastructure performance, identify degradation trends, and proactively develop mitigation strategies.\nResolve production software defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes within agreed service levels.\nPerform remediation of security vulnerabilities in response to Tenable or equivalent scan reports, ensuring compliance with STIG, DHS 4300A, and NIST 800-53 frameworks.\nSupport the continuous operation and resilience of legacy and hybrid systems, including SAS, OpenROAD, and SQL/PLSQL environments.\nDevelop and maintain scripts, automation routines, and tools to improve monitoring, alerting, and deployment efficiency.\nParticipate in change control, configuration management, and patching of system-level software and services.\nDocument technical resolutions, software configurations, deployment procedures, and version updates to support audit readiness and knowledge transfer.\nWork collaboratively with developers, help desk, network engineers, and cybersecurity personnel to maintain service availability and compliance.\nSupport test, staging, and production environments across virtualized platforms using VMware, Hyper-V, and containerized orchestration via Kubernetes.\nParticipate in Agile/DevSecOps operations, using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket for tracking, knowledge sharing, and issue management.\nAll other duties as assigned by management.\nSkills/Qualifications:\nAdvanced expertise in system-level software development and support for RHEL, Windows, VMware, and virtualized infrastructures.\nStrong troubleshooting experience in production environments with a focus on availability, security, and rapid recovery.\nKnowledge of legacy and enterprise systems, including OpenROAD, Ingres, and SAS.\nScripting experience in Bash, PowerShell, or Python to automate operational tasks and system updates.\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and version control platforms in operational environments.\nStrong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills for multi-disciplinary coordination.\nEducation/Experience Requirements:\nBachelor’s or Associate's degree in Computer Science, Math, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
