Systems Test Engineer (Milwaukee)

Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly motivated BMS System Test Engineer to support validation and verification activities for Battery Management Systems (BMS) used in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, or battery-powered products. The ideal candidate will have experience in system-level testing, HIL validation, CAN communication, diagnostics, and battery system integration.The engineer will work closely with hardware, software, controls, and validation teams to ensure reliable and safe BMS functionality under various operating conditions.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute system-level test plans, test cases, and validation procedures for Battery Management Systems (BMS)Perform functional, integration, regression, and performance testing of BMS hardware and softwareConduct Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and bench-level testing for battery systemsValidate battery protection features including over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, thermal protection, and fault handlingAnalyze CAN logs, diagnostics, and test results to identify issues and support root cause analysisWork with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve system-level issuesAutomate test scripts and validation processes using Python, CAPL, or similar scripting toolsSupport verification of SOC, SOH, balancing, charging, and thermal management algorithmsUse tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, Vector tools, MATLAB/Simulink, or dSPACE for testing and analysisMaintain test documentation, validation reports, traceability matrices, and defect tracking recordsSupport vehicle-level or pack-level integration and validation activitiesEnsure compliance with automotive quality and safety standards including ISO 26262Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field3+ years of experience in BMS testing, automotive system testing, or embedded system validationStrong understanding of lithium-ion battery systems and BMS functionalitiesExperience with CAN communication protocols and diagnostic toolsHands-on experience with HIL systems, test benches, or automated validation setupsKnowledge of Vector tools such as CANoe and CANalyzerFamiliarity with MATLAB/Simulink and embedded systems testingStrong debugging, analytical, and troubleshooting skillsGood understanding of automotive validation processes and testing methodologiesExcellent communication and technical documentation skillsPreferred SkillsExperience with EV/HEV battery systems and high-voltage architecturesKnowledge of AUTOSAR, UDS diagnostics, and Functional Safety (ISO 26262)Experience with Python, CAPL, or automation scriptingFamiliarity with dSPACE, NI, or ETAS test platformsExposure to battery charging systems and thermal management validationExperience with SIL/MIL/HIL testing environmentsUnderstanding of cybersecurity requirements for automotive systemsMaster's degree or relevant automotive certifications is a plus
