About the JobBancroft Construction Services (BCS) provides environmental compliance, biological monitoring, and construction support services for public and private infrastructure projects throughout California. Our team works closely with construction managers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects are completed efficiently while maintaining full compliance with environmental permits and regulations.This is a seasonal variable on-call, project-based position with variable hours depending on project needs. 4WD or AWD vehicle preferred for the role.Position SummaryWe are seeking variable on-call Field Biologists who will be responsible for biological surveys, construction monitoring, and environmental compliance activities in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Responsibilities may include general and focused biological surveys, nesting bird surveys and monitoring, sensitive species monitoring, habitat assessments, and preparation of field documentation and reports.The position requires the ability to work independently in the field, communicate effectively with construction personnel and project managers, and make sound, real-time decisions to maintain regulatory compliance across diverse environmental settings, including coastal, agricultural, desert, and riparian habitats.We are seeking for candidates in the following counties: Fresno, Kern, Madera, Riverside, Tuolumne, Imperial, Kings, Mono, San Bernardino, Tulare, Inyo, Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara, Ventura .Duties & ResponsibilitiesConduct general biological reconnaissance surveys, habitat assessments, and focused (including protocol-level) surveys for sensitive plant and wildlife speciesPerform nesting bird surveys and monitoring, identifying species and nesting behaviors by sight and sound in compliance with applicable buffer requirements and permit conditionsConduct biological and environmental compliance monitoring during active construction activitiesCoordinate with construction crews, superintendents, and project managers to ensure compliance with biological permit conditions and environmental commitmentsComplete pre-construction surveys and daily monitoring documentationProvide environmental awareness and sensitive species education to construction personnelAccurately collect field data, photographs, GPS points, and monitoring observations and submit daily reportsAssist with data entry, organization, and management of biological recordsInterpret and apply biological permit conditions, regulatory documents, and agency approvalsCommunicate field observations, compliance concerns, and schedule availability to project managers and senior biologistsPerform other field or office support tasks as assigned· Qualifications & SkillsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related fieldMinimum of 6-12 months of professional experience in biological surveys, biological consulting, or construction/environmental monitoringValid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and access to a reliable vehiclePreferred QualificationsExperience with construction monitoring and environmental compliance on California High Speed RailExperience with California Tiger Salamander direct observation at all 3 life stages whether in a zoo, specimen, or in wildlife (Wildlife is preferred)Experience conducting nesting bird surveys and monitoringExperience working with special-status species (federal or state listed, candidate, or sensitive species)Familiarity with CEQA, NEPA, CESA, and FESA requirementsExperience using GPS units, Survey123, ArcGIS, ArcCollector, or similar field data collection toolsScientific Collecting Permit (CDFW), USFWS 10(a)(1)(A) permit, or similar authorizations (preferred, not required)· Work EnvironmentThis position is field-intensive and may involve:Long hours in outdoor environments and temperature extremesWalking or hiking on uneven terrain while carrying field equipmentWorking in active construction sites around heavy equipmentCandidates must be physically capable of performing required field duties safely.Equal Opportunity EmployerBancroft Construction Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
