Occupational Therapist
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Occupational Therapist to lead hand therapy services for Westmed. You will work closely with our referring providers and mentor existing staff and new hires. Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating data to identify problems and develop a plan of care. Inform patients when diagnosis reveals findings outside occupational therapy and refer to appropriate practitioners. Fabricate custom splints based on physician orders and evaluation of patient needs. Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress into EMR. Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment (modalities, manual treatment, therapeutic ex, etc.) to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients. Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit. Direct, supervise, assess, and communicate with supportive personnel. Provide educational information about occupational therapy including injury prevention, ergonomics and ways to promote health. Discharge patient from occupational therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals. Instruct patient and/or family in treatment procedures to be continued at home. GENERAL QUALIFICATION STANDARDS & JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education/Certifications/Licenses: NYS Occupational Therapy License and Registration - required Hand Therapist Certification - preferred BLS Certification - required Performance Standards for Specialty Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Social skills - Communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and co-workers Communicate with MDs on a continuous basis in regards to patient care Computer Skills - Knowledge of EMR, MS Word/Excel, OT billing codes Technical Skills - Knowledge of custom splint fabrication, manual OT treatments, use of modalities and OT exercise equipment KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR EVERY POSITION Customer / Patient Service Compliance and HIPAA Problem Solving and Judgment Communication Dependability Teamwork Professional Appearance Willingness to Learn/Continuous Learning All employees are responsible for reading and abiding by Summit Health’s Policies and Procedures.
