Associate: Energy Regulatory
Job OverviewA law firm seeks a mid-level Associate with expertise in energy regulatory matters to join their team in Houston, New York City, or Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will have significant experience advising clients on compliance with federal and state electricity regulations and representing clients in administrative proceedings before agencies such as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and state public utility commissions.DutiesDraft and negotiate electricity-related agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements and interconnection agreements.Advise on compliance with federal and state electricity regulations.Assist with resolving commercial disputes and ongoing project administration.Conduct research and draft memoranda on local, federal, and international laws.Analyze energy regulatory and operational practices.Draft and enforce performance security documents.Participate in due diligence and prepare legal opinions.Coordinate with local counsel and internal experts.Communicate with clients and provide direct assistance to senior lawyers.Manage and train junior associates.Prepare pitch materials for business development initiatives.Participate in educational seminars and practice groups.Requirements3+ years of relevant experience in electricity regulatory matters and transactions.Experience advising on FERC and state public utility commission proceedings.Strong academic record and intellectual curiosity.Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.Strong time management and drafting skills.Proactive, resourceful, and takes initiative.EducationJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.CertificationsAdmitted to practice and in good standing in the jurisdiction of the office location.SkillsCommercial and business awareness.Ability to see the big picture.Strong professional presence and client service focus.Team player with strong judgment.BenefitsMedical, dental, and vision insurance.Life and disability coverage.401(k) retirement savings.Vacation time and leave programs, including parental leave.Performance bonus eligibility for exempt roles.J-18808-Ljbffr
