Fabrication Technician (Fluid Systems)

Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.FABRICATION TECHNICIAN (FLUID SYSTEMS)RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide technician ground support equipment (GSE) support, which involves building, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment such as pumps, tanks, valves, and plumbing related to the liquid oxygen (LOX) pad, fuel pad, and other aspects of the site facilitiesMaintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and instrumentation as neededOperate and maintain hardware, high-pressure systems and pumps, and other ancillary equipment, including pneumatic componentsFabricate and repair GSE, hardware, and equipmentCollaborate with design engineers to develop and document ground support equipment activitiesEnsure all materials are clean and inspected according to Clean for Oxygen Service StandardsBuild and maintain GSE, LOX/fuel farms, and associated systems/equipmentObtain and maintain licenses, operator permits, or certifications as requiredFollow all necessary regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures, including quality policies, safety policies, OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, NFPA, ASME, NEC, etc.Develop ways to streamline processes and increase the reliability of testing operationsPerform a variety of related duties in support of vehicle, launch pad, and development programsBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:* High school diploma or equivalency certificate* 1+ years of professional hands-on experience with pressurized, pneumatic, or hydraulic systemsPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Experience in the aerospace industry, military or other high-reliability operating environmentExperience in ground support equipment in an aerospace industryMechanical aptitude and experience (work with machines and general tooling)Formalized mechanical training, skilled in hand and power tool usageA demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving plays a critical roleKnowledge of vacuum, hydraulic and pump systemsKnowledge of all types of borescope inspection equipmentKnowledge of different fittings such as NPT and A/NAbility to utilize power tools and hand tools as well as heavy equipmentExperience with precision tube bendingExperience with precision measuring instrumentsAbility to read and understand mechanical, electrical schematics as well as piping and instrumentation diagramsKnowledge of hazardous systems - cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, pyrophoricKnowledge of high-pressure system design and handlingADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape CanaveralAbility to work the following shift:Monday - Friday 6:00am - 4:30pmAbility to work nights & weekends when needed to meet critical launch milestonesAbility to lift heavy objects (up to 25 lbs.) unassistedAbility to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over handAbility to work at elevated heights (up to 100 feet)Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments - heat, cold, rainWork performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noiseTravel to other sites may be required, up to 15% of the timeITAR REQUIREMENTS:* To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
