This position will be responsible for developing, improving and maintaining Quality documents and procedures related to the production of cooling towers and cooling tower parts. The incumbent will also be involved in the ISO documentation, audits, and procedures to maintain the ISO certification and compliance with our facility and products. The Quality Engineer will work closely with engineering to drive quality improvement through design of products and assembly manuals. This position will support Product Development to ensure quality on new products. In addition, this position will help to support commercial tours and customer inspections of the manufacturing plant. The incumbent will support the quality manager on new projects and be actively involved in external audits from customers and the external ISO Quality Management System Registrar. This position will be responsible for the Springfield plant calibration system and instrumental for performing internal audits and monitoring the internal audit program. The Quality Engineer will also be responsible for evaluating production performance against key process indicators, as well as formulating corrective measures to ensure that identified issues are resolved to prevent reoccurrence.\n\nWhat you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)\nWhile each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:\n\nLead product quality assurance efforts ensuring conformance to standards and specifications through testing, inspecting, and monitoring key process variables in addition to product characteristics\n\nImplements changes and updates to a plant wide quality system with a focus on maintenance of the company's ISO certification\n\nWorks closely with Team Leaders and Process Engineers to drive improvement in product quality\n\nAssists R&D in evaluation/trials of new products and processes for safety, quality, & productivity prior to launch\n\nProvides technical support while working with business teams and production associates to improve plant and equipment efficiencies and reduce costs\n\nTroubleshoots and analyzes process capability. Implement actions to improve equipment quality of production\n\nEvaluates and implements new technologies aimed at eliminating defects\n\nActively support production work teams as required to meet world-class quality standards\n\nMaintains plant calibration of tools and gauges. Provides training in production for proper use of gauges.\n\nPerforms internal audits and maintenance of the internal audit program to comply with ISO system requirements\n\nReview customer feedback regularly and implement prioritized actions to resolve concerns\n\nPerforms root cause analysis and evaluates corrective measures to prevent nonconformities.\n\nLead training activities related to quality\n\nProvide other technical guidance and/or assistance as required by the business\n\nProvides feedback to production teams - issues Quality Alerts to inform production of identified errors.\n\nWhat we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)\nRequired Experience & Skills\n\nAbility to adapt to change and flex work at appropriate times so as to support the assembly process\n\nAbility to safely and effectively operate cutting tools\n\nAbility to correctly use measuring tools and grinder\n\nAbility to correctly use crane and air float\n\nAbility to correctly and safely use other hand tools (both manual and pneumatic)\n\nAbility to read a tape measure in metric and imperial standards\n\nAbility to apply shop mathematics to solve problems\n\nAbility to plan work and select proper tools\n\nAbility to compare and accurately determine difference in size, shape, and form of objects\n\nAbility to work within precise limits and/or standards of accuracy\n\nAbility to interpret build orders and engineering drawings correctly\n\nAbility to operate impact gun and torque wrench\n\nAbility to multi-task\n\nAbility to work well with others\n\nAbility to work in a fast-paced environment\n\nAbility to communicate effectively\n\nAbility to follow and understand directions\n\nEducation & Certifications\n\nBachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality or related technical field preferred\n\n3-5 years of experience in an ISO or AS9100 certified production environment\n\nSix Sigma leadership preferred, black or green belt certified\n\nExperience in implementing lean manufacturing techniques\n\nAbility to coach, train and lead others\n\nExperience hosting auditors and performing audits to comply with ISO system requirements.\n\nIdeal Experience & Skills\n\nStrong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel\n\nASQ CQE and CQA certifications preferred\n\nSAP experience is preferred, but is not required\n\nTravel & Working Environment\n\nOnsite - manufacturing plant environment, with potential exposure to all types of weather, including excessive heat, excessive cold, and excessive noise\n\nThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
