You will lead a portfolio of product engineering teams, working towards accelerating medication access for patients. Each team has a clear area of ownership and an Engineering Lead. Because you are the first person in this role, you will help define what engineering management looks like at Latent rather than run an established playbook.Your job is to help those teams work effectively. You will mentor and support Leads, hire and develop engineers, and keep teams aligned with company priorities. You will also work directly with Product and business leaders on strategy, prioritization, and execution.ResponsibilitiesLead multiple product engineering teams across product areasCoach Leads on technical direction, execution, communication, and team developmentHire engineers and help each person improve through clear expectations and regular feedbackWork with Product and business leaders to set directions and team prioritiesDefine technical strategies and roadmapsDefine and improve engineering management practices as the organization growsExperience we valueYou have experience managing multiple engineering teams, leading through experienced technical leads or other managersYou truly care about building teams, and helping each person on the team grow their career and impactYou have made difficult performance and organizational decisions with care and clarityYou have partnered closely with Product and with stakeholders outside engineering to deliver business outcomesYou have worked in a domain with complex requirements, multiple stakeholders, or significant operational constraintsYou were a staff-level (or comparably senior) engineer before moving into management, and you can still go deep on architecture and tradeoffs with senior engineersYou communicate cogentlyYou know how to add structure without adding process for its own sakeHow we workOur teams are small by design. Engineers are expected to understand the customer problem, own their decisions, and follow their work through to deliver business outcomes. Leads handle much of the daily technical direction and leadership. Engineering Managers focus on team quality, coaching, staffing, performance, and alignment across teams.This role will suit someone who likes to stay engaged with the substance of the work, and is comfortable making decisions through ambiguity. AI is changing what a small team of strong engineers can build, and we are designing the engineering organization around that. If you are looking for an established playbook to run, this is not the role.
