In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Query EAD and enter patient demographics in computer system to obtain accurate patient medical record and account numberCommunicate Medical Center’s Collection Policy and collect outstanding balance amounts, deposits and point of service paymentsVerify insurance benefits and obtain prior authorizations for those payers that require pre-authorizationVerify through Compliance Checker Software all Medicare patient diagnoses to ensure compliance with LMRP guidelines and obtain ABN’s as necessaryObtain physician orders to support services renderedOrder ancillary tests within the order entry systemAssist insurance companies, physician offices, and other hospital departments with patient information, etc.Monitor and coordinate patient placement through bed control functions in a timely and patient focused mannerOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education And Formal TrainingHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredWork Experience1 year experience with Microsoft Windows required1 year of insurance/clerical experience within a hospital or medical office setting preferredKnowledge, Skills, And Abilities RequiredKnowledge of insurance and collection of payments preferredMedical terminology knowledge preferred Ability to type and perform data entry functions at a level required and needed to maintain productivity standards of a departmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated customer service skills to a variety of customers from different cultural and economic backgrounds preferredCritical thinking skills and ability to problem solveMulti-skilled with the ability to appropriately handle complexity and stress with the changing needs of the patients, families, visitors, and the Health SystemDexterity to operate office equipmentAnswer telephone calls, use personal computer and other business machines extensivelyPhysical RequirementsMay have eyestrain due to the many hours spent looking at a computer screenSitting or standing in intervals for long periods of timeLow to moderate noise levelBends, reaches, pushes and pulls file drawers to file records and reportsAbility to transport patients and assist with baggageRegularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 poundsRequired Licenses And CertificationsCape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity
