Position OverviewAssistant Professor of Practice (Master Teacher) in the UTRGV UTeach program at the College of Sciences, beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. The role is for a three-year appointment, renewable based on performance.LocationEdinburg, TexasResponsibilitiesTeach and/or supervise undergraduate students in field-based courses related to preservice teacher development.Collaborate with local public school administrators who accept students for field experiences.Work with local public school teachers who serve as mentors for the students.Conduct field observations of the students.Provide student mentoring, induction support, and other program-related tasks.Perform additional service activities related to the UTeach program.QualificationsMinimum: M.S. in mathematics or mathematics education from an accredited university.License or certification to teach mathematics at the high-school level.Preferred: 5 years of experience teaching mathematics at the high-school level.Additional RequirementsProficiency in English as demonstrated by a satisfactory TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent test score.Background check required as the position is security sensitive.Position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.Salary and BenefitsSalary commensurate with qualifications and experience.Retirement benefits through the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) depending on hours worked.EEO StatementIt is the policy of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to promote and ensure equal employment opportunities for all individuals without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information or protected veteran status.
