In this crucial role, you will be responsible for ensuring all finishing processes meet strict aerospace specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. You will also leverage your experience to develop innovative surface preparation, painting, coating, and curing solutions alongside manufacturing engineering to eliminate rework, improve yield, and increase efficiency.\nPrimary Responsibilities:\nServe as the technical subject matter expert in the painting and coating department\nAble to train individuals on the use of various paint coatings, including primers, topcoats, and specialty finishes, on cutting-edge hardware using spray guns and other application equipment\nMaintain and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for surface preparation, painting, coating, and curing processes\nContinuous improvement activities involving painting/coating technology, in conjunction with the Manufacturing Engineering (ME) team, to improve yield and increase labor utilization\nWork on Root Cause/Corrective Actions (RCCA) with the Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to mitigate defects\nUse your experience with paints from various suppliers to inform internal supply chain personnel about potential impacts of supplier changes on production\nProactively monitor the supply base to address upcoming chemical shortages and obsolescence. This activity will utilize various inputs, such as kanban, MRP signals and operator feedback, to realign min-max quantities to emergent demand\nAssist in developing strong Return on Investment (ROI) analyses for improvements to painting and coating tooling and equipment\nPerform special projects and assigned tasks\nNote: Approximately 85% of this role focuses on maintaining and improving processes, collaborating with engineers, and executing special projects. 15% of the role will be time in the paint booth training new operators and testing new processes/tooling.\nPreferred Education:\nAssociate's Degree or High School Diploma/GED plus relevant experience\nPreferred Experience:\n5+years of direct experience with surface preparation, paint mixing, applying paints and coatings and curing/drying in a manufacturing or similar environment\n2+ years of direct experience in an AS9100 manufacturing facility.\n5+years ofdeveloping painting and coating processes and implementing innovative technologies to enhance quality\nIndustry-recognized professional painting certifications, such as NADCAP or PPG certification\nExperience with FOD mitigation program\nProficiency with advanced application techniques and equipment\nExperience working with paints from numerous suppliers\nFamiliarity with automated paint mixing and application systems\nPreferred Skills and Abilities:\nAbility to interpret Product Data Sheets (PDS) and Technical Data Sheets (TDS) for proper mixing ratios and application methods\nAbility to train and mentor junior painters\nSkill in safely operating spray coating equipment according to industry standards\nMechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and diagnosing faulty equipment and tooling\nStaying current with the latest advancements and industry trends in paint chemistry\nHighly detail-oriented and analytical,approach to technical writing assignments\nAbility to manage multiple priorities effectively\nStrong sense of urgency and self-motivation\nExcellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills\nThrive in a fast-paced environment and are empowered to innovate and lead change\nPhysical Requirements:\nFrequent movement about the production floor, working closely with operations and engineering personnel.\nContinuous use of personal computers, database and digital platforms, etc.\nUses hands, fingers, and arms to manipulate parts, equipment, tooling, materials, etc.\nFrequent close vision and the ability to adjust focus.\nOccasionally use of steps, or ladder.\nThe employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.\nSeldom to occasionally position self to stoop, kneel, or crouch.\nPay Range:\nPlease note the typical hiring range is $38.46 - $57.69 Hourly.
