College education preferred. Must be a leader who has excellent people skills and communication skills. Must be able to work both independently and as a team and work overtime as needed. Must be able to prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Must have demonstrated leadership ability. Must be computer literate, able to work with Microsoft applications, and able to learn and use company business software. Must be able to transport up to 40 pounds.\r\nDuties and Responsibilities\r\nWorks in the laboratory to help with workload; this will include performing hands-on laboratory tasks such as testing disks, making standards and vats, performing titrations, troubleshooting failures, etc. (It is to be understood that managing the departments/employees will not require 40 hours of the Spin QC Supervisor's time each week; the remainder of time should be devoted to working hands-on directly with your department/employees in any laboratory activities and completing special projects as needed.)\r\nMaintains records of each employee's attendance (including vacation, sick time, time off without pay, overtime, etc.). Reviews timecards for accuracy and approval and submits them in a timely manner to Payroll for processing.\r\nAssists employees with questions or problems they have regarding work assignments, priorities, safety, personnel issues, etc.\r\nCoaches and develops staff, fosters a team atmosphere. Separates friendship from business. Asserts oneself, rather than taking a passive approach to addressing issues.\r\nCounsels employees when necessary and recommends to Management such personnel actions as disciplinary action, transfer, termination of employment, etc. Documents any issues, counseling efforts, etc.\r\nEvaluates employees using the Company's performance appraisal system.\r\nOversees training and orientation of new employees and offers additional training as needed. Offers re-training when necessary. Sets up and maintains cross training of staff.\r\nParticipates in the hiring process for new technicians by attending interviews/tours and giving input on candidates' ability to perform the job and fit in well with the team.\r\nDaily Functions\r\nAssigns daily tasks and room assignments to QC technicians. Actively fills in to cover absences and requests help from Spin QC backups if necessary. Checks on the team throughout the day to be sure that any issues (equipment, people issues, chemicals, product issues, safety, etc.) are addressed promptly.\r\nAssures the QC staff is following the SOPs and guidelines for Spin QC.\r\nSeeks advice from R&D when needed to determine whether chemicals need adjusting or whether Spin production needs to be temporarily placed on hold until problem is resolved and handles accordingly.\r\nMakes data-driven pass/hold/fail decisions on tested samples. Provides recommended corrective actions to production based on test results and troubleshooting guide.\r\nCommunicates all issues to the Quality Manager, Operations, and/or R&D in a timely manner.\r\nPrepares standards and vats used in the daily testing of Spin disks and performs titrations.\r\nOversees QC room set up for each room during product change over and at the beginning of every shift.\r\nManages meter usage ensuring only qualified meters are used and appropriate meters are selected for each test. Reports all meter issues using the broken meter form and sends broken meters to the meter department for inspection and maintenance. Notifies R&D support of immediate meter concerns.\r\nConducts performance tests on startup and hourly disk samples and records all performance data on data sheets and logs.\r\nInterprets data and makes reagent adjustments as needed and records such adjustments data sheets and logs.\r\nEnsures that all paper and electronic QC documents (e.g., QC data sheets, QC Client Software) and Spin room logs are completed accurately and the same day the work is done.\r\nAssures that the daily task checklist is completed each day, including end-of-shift activities, making sure labs are clean and in good working order for the next shift.\r\nConducts and ensures completion of investigations when results are out of specification or for other failures identified in the lab.\r\nPerforms and oversees testing of held disk samples.\r\nActively participates in and proactively seeks special projects for self and team during down time, which may include and is not limited to complaint investigation/testing, raw material or shipping & receiving inspections, R&D projects, QA projects.\r\nProvides support for production bag line as needed.\r\nPerforms other quality-related tasks as assigned by Quality Management.\r\nParticipates in lean activities, including but not limited to:\r\nLean training and lean events such as kaizen or a 5-day event.\r\n5-S program in department or other areas assigned.\r\nDMAICs. Continuously looks for ways to improve both the departments and own individual efficiencies and time management, as well as ways to improve any aspect of the Company's operations and develops/implements DMAICs accordingly.\r\nEncourages staff to participate in all the above.\r\nConducts oneself professionally and leads by example.
