SQL Server Database Administrator

About The RoleShipcom Wireless IoT is looking for a highly skilled Database Administrator (DBA) who will take on a key role on our development team. As a DBA, you will keep the database up and running smoothly 24/7, optimize the database and the data model. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the application, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.Given Shipcom’s progress in the IoT division, we expect you to grow quickly; as a technical leader on the team, you will drive the design and development of the database which is the core of the product experience. You will be required to see out a project from conception to final product, requiring good organizational skills and attention to detail.This is a unique opportunity to join a small team and have a large impact across different sides of the business as it advances quickly to meet customer demand. As an integral member on the team, you will have a massive impact on our product’s success.What You’ll Be Responsible ForPerform day to day database system administration, including daily checklists, backup verification, log review, security maintenance, performance tuning (analysis, indexing, updating statistics, etc.)Create, update, and maintain database objects in coordination with our development teamCreate, review, and maintain code in our database systems to optimize, standardize and/or prepare for upgradesUpgrade, configure and maintain server and database monitoring software to baseline system performance and proactively identify (and remedy) potential issues.Resource monitoring and capacity planningReview, test, update, and document detailed disaster recovery/business continuity plans for key production SQL Servers (database mirroring, log shipping, replication, clustering) in a VM/SAN environmentPerform database backup and recovery as required, including periodic testingReviews, tests, and recommends and installs upgrades of database software, including patches and major releasesPerforms data analysis and other reporting tasks. This involves data investigation and cleansingExpected Skills/QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering. Master’s degree preferred5+ years of Experience that includes performance and tuning expertise in SQL Server. Demonstrates knowledge of principles, concepts, and theories in own discipline, and has extensive knowledge of principles and concepts in other functionsAdminister and troubleshoot SQL Server databases including security patching, SQL tuning, Instance tuning, memory utilization, highly skilled in identifying and resolving complex query bottlenecksLoad balancing, Query optimization, Database & Schema design and Database performance tuningExperience with optimizing and supporting large multi-terabyte production databasesExceptional Analytic/Problem-solving/Troubleshooting expertise and attention to detailStrong skills in PowerShell scriptingMCSE/MCSA certifications preferred but not requiredStrong organizational and project management skills, with an ability to multitask across teams, projects, and prioritiesExcellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)Ability to function at a high level of effectiveness, flexibility, independence and initiative without daily interaction with managementBeing passionate about what you do and a get-things-done attitude to make your product and team successfulJob Type: Full TimeJob Location: Houston Shipcom HQ
