They will exercise sound engineering judgement and present analysis summaries which support design decisions. The Embedded Software Engineer II is a capable individual contributor who can independently deliver production-ready embedded code, contribute to design discussions, and support system integration. They are proficient in embedded architecture and real-time programming, and participate in code reviews. The Software Engineer II will work both independently and in a team environment with Software Engineers, Design Engineers, NPI Managers, and Test Technicians. Collaboration with other departments including manufacturing, Quality, and Assembly is expected.\n\nFLSA: Exempt\n\nJob Duties and Responsibilities:\n\nDesign and develop software components with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and maintainability, ensuring they meet product requirements and integrate seamlessly with existing systems.\nContribute to refining development processes by identifying inefficiencies and suggesting improvements. Take ownership of small features, ensuring adherence to best practices and quality standards.\nContribute to R&D projects in a team setting to meet project delivery dates.\nPerform testing and analyze test data. Create test reports to determine if design and process meet functional and performance specifications.\nContribute to release planning by identifying potential risks and ensuring proper test coverage. Assist in automating deployment processes and improving release documentation.\nUnderstand basic software concepts for manufactured systems, including control, integration, and testing. Assist in troubleshooting.\nProactively evaluate and integrate complex technical information to design robust systems, providing technical direction and mentorship to ensure the software meets scalability and performance standards for product success.\nProvide technical assistance to both internal software development teams and external software component suppliers, helping to identify and resolve issues in the build process, ensuring smooth integration and maintaining project timelines.\nIdentify the underlying causes of software issues or system failures. Analyze logs, trace errors, and diagnose software bugs, aiming to resolve issues that affect the functionality and performance of the software.\nActively participate in the SIG SAUER NPI (New Product Introduction) process.\nStart building supportive mentorship connections with less experienced engineers and cross-functional team members.\nTravel on an infrequent basis.\nEngage in and actively volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.\nParticipate in and sustain 5S Standards.\nMust follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.\nMiscellaneous duties as assigned.\n\nEducation/Experience & Skills:\n\nBachelor of Science in software Engineering, and 3-6 years of previous experience as a Software Engineer.\nAbility to develop and optimize embedded software, including C/C++ for microcontrollers and real-time operating systems (RTOS). Proficiency in debugging tools, low-level drivers, firmware development, and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN) is essential. Use of an IDE for development like VSCode and version control with Git are essential.\nDemonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.\nMust be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.\nClasswork and practical software engineering design experience.\nAbility to interpret technical instructions in schematic, mathematical or diagram form.\nCollaborate with external development teams to evaluate third-party tools and work directly with them for the development of custom software solutions that meet organizational requirements and technical specifications.\nAbility to write reports and procedures, and effectively present information to team members and management.\nAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and present and execute viable solutions.\nExperience using and maintaining firearms is preferred.\n\nWorking Conditions:\n\nProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.\nAbility to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.\nAbility to lift up to 25 pounds.\nMust wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.\nMust comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc.
