Project Engineer
The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of construction and service projects by assisting Project Managers with project planning, coordination, documentation, procurement, scheduling, and communication. This role serves as a key liaison between project management, field operations, subcontractors, vendors, and customers to help ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with company standards.The Project Engineer is an entry-level to mid-level project management position that provides a developmental path toward a Project Manager role.Compensation & BenefitsWalton & Company offers a competitive executive compensation package and comprehensive benefits, which may include:Competitive salary based on experienceHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and company holidaysOngoing professional development and leadership opportunitiesEssential Job DutiesAssist Project Managers in planning and coordinating assigned projects.Support project startup activities, including contract review, project setup, and document organization.Coordinate project communication between internal departments, field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and customers.Attend project meetings and prepare meeting notes and action items.Track project milestones, deliverables, and deadlines.Assist with equipment and material procurement activities.Obtain vendor quotations and support purchasing efforts.Track material deliveries and coordinate logistics with field personnel.Monitor equipment lead times and identify potential project impacts.Maintain project files and records in accordance with company standards.Process submittals, RFIs, change orders, and closeout documentation.Track project documentation and ensure timely responses from stakeholders.Assist with permit applications and regulatory documentation when required.Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules.Monitor project progress and communicate schedule impacts.Support Project Managers with cost tracking and budget monitoring.Assist in preparing project status reports and forecasting information.Conduct jobsite visits as needed to support project activities.Assist in resolving project issues and coordinating solutions.Support field teams by helping secure information, materials, and resources necessary for project success.Promote positive customer relationships through timely communication and responsiveness.Support Walton's commitment to safety by promoting safe work practices.Assist with project quality control initiatives.Ensure project documentation complies with company, customer, and regulatory requirements.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Management, or a related field preferred.Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.0–3 years of construction, engineering, project coordination, or related experience preferred.Internship or co-op experience in construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, or engineering environments is a plus.Strong organizational and time management skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.Ability to learn project management and construction software platforms.Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work effectively in a team environment.Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentThe Project Engineer position requires the ability to meet the established physical demands of the role, including prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and computer use. The position requires regular visits to active construction and service job sites, which may involve navigating uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, and exposure to varying weather conditions and environmental factors. Employees must be able to occasionally lift and carry materials, equipment, or documents weighing up to 25 pounds. Work is performed in both office and field environments and may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility apparel, and steel-toed footwear when visiting job sites.
