This is a hands-on role for engineers who enjoy\nworking close to the hardware and solving complex systems problems.\nIn this role, you will design and implement low-level subsystems that interact directly with\nmodern processors and operating system internals. You will be responsible for configuring\nprocessors, optimizing real-time behavior, and contributing to the architecture of high-\nperformance systems used in demanding, safety-critical environments.\nAt the Principal level, this role also includes technical leadership, architectural decision-making,\nand mentoring other engineers.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign and develop low-level system software, including kernel-adjacent subsystems\nand platform services.\nWork directly with processor architecture and configuration, including:\no CPU initialization and configuration.\no Interrupts, timers, and memory management (MMU, caching).\no Multi-core and multi-processor systems.\nImplement and optimize real-time and deterministic execution paths.\nAnalyze system performance, latency, and reliability issues at the hardware/software\nboundary.\nCollaborate with hardware vendors, silicon documentation, and reference platforms.\nContribute to system architecture decisions and long-term technical direction.\nReview code and design documents; promote best practices in systems programming.\n(Principal level) Mentor senior engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.\nQualifications\nRequired\n8+ years of experience (Senior) or 12+ years (Principal) in systems-level software\ndevelopment.\nExpert-level proficiency in C and C++.\nStrong experience with low-level OS or kernel-adjacent development.\nDeep understanding of:\no Processor architecture (x86 and/or ARM preferred).\no Boot processes and hardware initialization.\no Interrupt handling, scheduling, and synchronization.\nExperience with multi-core, real-time, or embedded systems.\nAbility to read and work from processor datasheets, chipset documentation, and\nspecifications.\nStrong debugging skills using low-level tools (JTAG, debuggers, performance profilers).\nExcellent problem-solving and communication skills.\nNeeds to be within driving distance of our Waltham, MA office.\nPreferred\nExperience with real-time operating systems or deterministic systems.\nBackground in embedded, industrial, aerospace, defense, or safety-critical systems.\nFamiliarity with Windows internals or hybrid RTOS/Windows environments.\nFamiliarity with Linux.\nExperience with BSP development or hardware bring-up.\nKnowledge of virtualization, hypervisors, or partitioned systems.\nPrior experience influencing architecture at a system or platform level.\nPerks and Benefits\nHealth, Dental, and 401(k) with an employer match of 25% up to 8% of total\ncompensation.\nAccrue up to 3 weeks PTO annually to start, with additional PTO accruing every year at\nthe company, up to 5 weeks after 10 years.\n12 Paid Federal Holidays off and one floating Holiday per year.\nHybrid work environment, with employees in the office on Tuesday and Thursday.\nFlexible working hours.\nInterested?
