You'll be the person the customer turns to when performance degrades, when a DR plan needs proving, or when the alerting isn't telling the right story. MongoDB is the primary technology, with MySQL/Percona and PostgreSQL alongside it, all running on AWS and managed through Terraform.What you'll be doingOwning day-to-day reliability and performance across a mixed MongoDB and SQL estatePerformance tuning: query analysis, indexing strategy, capacity and scaling decisionsDesigning, testing and validating backup, recovery and disaster recovery processesBuilding and improving observability and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, PMM or equivalent)Leading incident response and escalation, and driving the follow-up fixesAutomating infrastructure with Terraform and reducing manual toilWorking directly with the customer's engineering teams as a trusted technical voiceWhat we're looking for5+ years in hands-on database administration or reliability engineeringMongoDB - genuine, solid working experience. You don't need to be a MongoDB specialist; a strong working level is what matters hereSQL - hands-on administration across MySQL, Percona or PostgreSQLAWS - required. Experience with managed database services (RDS/Aurora) is a real plus, general AWS familiarity is fineTerraform / IaC - required, with real and demonstrable experienceSolid backup, recovery and DR backgroundMonitoring and observability tooling experienceStrong communication skills - this role sits inside the customer's team, so being able to explain, influence and reassure matters as much as the technical depthNice to haveConsulting or other customer-facing experienceAviation, aerospace or another safety-critical industry backgroundA track record of stability and longevity in previous rolesWorth knowing before you applyThe customer is open to someone who may need a few weeks of upskilling after starting, provided the core mix - MongoDB, SQL, AWS and Terraform - is genuinely there. If you're a strong all-round DBA/DBRE who doesn't consider themselves an elite MongoDB expert, you are still very much in scope.This role isn't a fit for Data Engineer, BI Developer or Data Scientist profiles - we need someone hands-on with database operations.
