This is a hands-on, design/build role for someone who is equally comfortable reviewing a schematic, evaluating an injection-molded enclosure tolerance or machine objects, negotiating with manufacturers, building software and troubleshooting units that failed in the field.This role starts as an individual contributor with a clear path to building and leading a hardware engineering team within the first 12 months as the product line and org scale.What You'll DoProduct Design & EngineeringDesign and specify hardware for connected/embedded devices (e.g., telematics units, cameras, NFC, and streaming systems) — spanning PCB-level electrical components and mechanical enclosuresOwn mechanical design for plastic and metal casings, including DFM (design for manufacturability) considerations and machining specs where custom or low-volume parts are neededBridge electrical, software, and mechanical engineering disciplines to ensure components, thermal management, ingress protection, and structural design work together and in collaboration with self-built softwarePrototype, iterate, and validate designs and rollout plans including distribution, support, and maintenance.Can follow engineering discussions about system design, protocols, keywords (TCP/REST/API), data pipelines. Understands what engineers need from the device side and can advocate for hardware constraints in those conversations. Can read a spec, API doc, or system diagram and ask the right questions without needing to write code.Manufacturing & Supply ChainSource raw components and off-the-shelf modules/units, vetting suppliers on cost, quality, and lead timeIdentify, evaluate, and manage relationships with contract manufacturers and assembly/mfg vendorsLead supply chain deep-dives to de-risk single-source components, manage cost, and plan for scaleSupport procurement and inventory planning in partnership with operations/supply chain teamsIntegrate said hardware with self-built software systems - think sophisticated vibe coding.
