This role provides the opportunity to contribute to public infrastructure and utility projects throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho while developing technical and professional skills under the mentorship of experienced professionals.\n\nYou will work within a multidisciplinary team of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, alongside licensed geotechnical engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, and engineering geologists. Senior staff provide mentoring, technical review, risk evaluation, and project collaboration to support your continued growth.\n\nThis position blends office-based analysis and reporting with field investigations and site visits. While primarily focused on geotechnical engineering, there are opportunities to expand into engineering geology, hydrogeology, and general engineering.\n\nWith your skills you will:\n\nReview published reports, well logs, geologic maps, and related data to evaluate site conditions, constraints, construction methodologies, and design risks.\n\nDevelop geologic cross-sections and hydrogeologic/potentiometric surface interpretations using existing and field-collected data.\n\nIdentify recommended drilling locations and depths for production and dewatering wells.\n\nPrepare technical specifications for shallow and deep foundations, production wells, and dewatering systems.\n\nParticipate in and document field investigations, including borings and test pits; classify soils and evaluate stratigraphy, strength, permeability, and suitability as construction materials.\n\nCollect and manage soil samples for laboratory testing; analyze field and lab data to determine engineering properties.\n\nPrepare technical memoranda and geotechnical reports summarizing findings, analyses, and recommendations.\n\nDevelop maps and figures using GIS and AutoCAD to support deliverables.\n\nTravel periodically within Washington, Oregon, and Idaho for fieldwork (all travel time compensated).\n\nWhat you’ll bring:\n\nBachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program required.\n\nMaster’s degree in geotechnical engineering, geology, or related field preferred.\n\nFE/EIT certification required.\n\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license in Washington, Oregon, and/or Idaho—or ability to obtain within 1–3 years.\n\n2–10 years of experience in civil or geotechnical engineering.\n\nStrong technical writing and verbal communication skills (writing samples will be required).\n\nExperience preparing clear, well-organized technical reports and data presentations.\n\nKnowledge of Pacific Northwest glacial, fluvial, and bedrock geology.\n\nExperience classifying soils using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).\n\nProficiency in analyzing geologic and geotechnical data.\n\nExperience with GIS, CAD, spreadsheets, modeling, and/or remote sensing tools.\n\nSupervisory Responsibilities\n\nCoordinate and oversee subconsultants and contractors with support from senior staff.\n\nMinimal internal staff supervision responsibilities.\n\nTechnical Skills\nProficiency or working knowledge in:\n\nMicrosoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills required)\n\nESRI ArcGIS Pro (or equivalent GIS software)\n\nAutoCAD\n\nBore log preparation and cataloging (preferred)\n\nSlope stability analysis (preferred)\n\nRetaining wall design (preferred)\n\nSeismic hazard evaluation and design (preferred)\n\nPhysical Requirements\nThis position is primarily office-based with periodic fieldwork. The successful candidate must be able to:\n\nSit or stand for extended periods and work at a computer.\n\nTravel between RH2 offices and project sites (mileage reimbursed at IRS rate).\n\nPosition requires ability to bend, kneel, stoop and stand on various ground materials using hands and arms to reach, dig or pull materials to conduct applicable tests and assessments, including entering shallow test pits or shored excavations.\n\nPerform fieldwork at construction sites for extended durations, including standing, walking, climbing ladders, navigating uneven terrain, and lifting up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.\n\nCompensation counts\nRH2 has an excellent multi-component compensation package built to recognize and financially reward our employees’ contributions throughout their career with the company.
