Beyond the classroom, this educator will serve as a vital cultural compass for the school community, guiding colleagues in seamlessly weaving 'ōlelo Hawai?i and culturally authentic practices into broader curriculum, interdisciplinary units, and experiential learning trips.Duties And ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum DevelopmentDeliver Instruction: Provide engaging, high-quality instruction in 'ōlelo Hawai?i for middle school and high school students.Design Curriculum: Develop interactive instructional programs that actively engage students. Partner with the Principal, Vice-Principal, and Curriculum Coordinator to build a fully articulated and vertically aligned Secondary Hawaiian Language and Culture program.Lead the Vision: Champion and support the overarching vision of the Hawaiian Culture and Studies program at IPA.Cultural Leadership & MentorshipMay Day Coordination: Co-lead the annual May Day program alongside the Elementary 'ōlelo Hawai?i Teacher. Coordinate rehearsals and instruct K-12 students, faculty, and staff in hula and cultural protocols.Faculty Support: Act as a cultural consultant, mentor, and coach for all teachers, staff, and administration. Ensure the respectful and authentic integration of Hawaiian culture into daily teaching practices, guest speaker selections, and learning trips.Student Life: Advise, mentor, and actively support the student Hawaiian Club.Additional Duties: Fulfill other duties as assigned to support the school community.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities over other staff members, though it involves strong peer leadership and student mentorship.Salary Range: $55,000 to $63,000Applicant RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Hawaiian Studies, Education, or a closely related field.Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching 'ōlelo Hawai?i and Hawaiian Culture.Instructional Skills: Demonstrated ability to provide differentiated instruction tailored to diverse student learning styles and needs.Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Culture & Environment: Proven ability to cultivate a supportive, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.Collaboration: An enthusiastic commitment to being an active, collaborative member of an innovative and caring professional learning community.Physical RequirementsEnvironment: Ability to work in a dynamic school environment, navigating transitioning between air-conditioned indoor spaces and Hawaii's warm, outdoor climate.
