Overview:\n\nAs a Sr. Application Administrator/Software Engineer, you will join the RocIT Science team supporting and enhancing a portfolio of enterprise applications and platforms. This role combines application engineering, operational support, automation, and continuous improvement. Success in this role requires strong troubleshooting skills, a mindset for automation, and a willingness to learn new technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to improve how technology services are delivered across the organization.\n\nYou will contribute to supporting a portfolio of business-critical platforms while helping the team expand automation, improve reliability, and deliver modernization initiatives that support enterprise priorities.\n\nLocation\n\nHybrid in Webster, NY\n\nResponsibilities:\nApplication Support: Ensure application availability, performance, and reliability by monitoring systems, resolving production issues, and implementing automation that reduces manual support effort. Use AI-enabled tools and observability solutions to improve incident detection and response.\nInnovation and Research: Evaluate and apply AI, automation, and development technologies that improve team productivity, operational efficiency, and user experience. Identify opportunities to address technical debt and improve platform sustainability.\nDocumentation: Develop and maintain documentation, knowledge articles, operational runbooks, and support materials. Use AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve documentation quality, accessibility, and maintenance.\nTechnical Assistance: Provide third-level support for complex application and platform issues. Develop automation, scripts, and knowledge assets that improve resolution times and reduce recurring operational work.\nTeam Collaboration: Actively participate in documentation best practices, cross-training, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning across the team.\nProcess and Cost Management: Build and maintain solutions that align with company support, change, security, and operational processes. Identify repetitive activities and automate them where practical.\nVendor Liaison: Serve as a primary technical contact for vendor-supported applications, assisting with issue resolution, product upgrades, and roadmap discussions.\nEnvironment Management: Manage development, test, and production environments, coordinating application upgrades, patching activities, certificate renewals, and environment refreshes.\nContinuous Improvement: Participate in application modernization, platform upgrades, patching, certificate management, vulnerability remediation, and other operational improvement initiatives across the application portfolio.\nQualifications:\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\nBachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\nExperience supporting enterprise applications or business-critical platforms in a production environment.\nExperience using AI-assisted tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar technologies to improve development, troubleshooting, documentation, or operational workflows.\nPassion for automation and continuous improvement.\nProficiency with Linux administration, Python, and shell scripting.\nKnowledge of networking fundamentals, including firewalls, load balancers, and TLS/SSL certificates.\nExperience with authentication technologies including Active Directory, Single Sign-On (SSO), OAuth, and related protocols.\nExperience with APIs, integrations, REST services, or other web service technologies.\nStrong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nExperience with Oracle ERP, Oracle E-Business Suite, or other enterprise SaaS applications.\nExperience with Java, JavaScript, HTML, XML, and JSON.\nKnowledge of Agile development methodologies.\nUnderstanding of Enterprise Data Architecture principles and best practices.\nExperience with Oracle Database and PL/SQL.\nCloud platform experience or foundational certification (Oracle, AWS, or Azure).\nCompensation: In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the base pay range for this position is $93,590 - $147,070 per year. Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position. If you are hired at Paychex, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
