Role descriptionJob Title: Lead Database EngineerLocation: Charlottte NCEmployment Type: Contract About this RoleThe Senior Database Migration Engineer will be responsible for end‑to‑end planning, preparation, execution, cutover, and post‑migration handover of Oracle, Exadata, and Microsoft SQL Server databases as part of a structured, wave‑based datacentre or platform migration program.The role demands strong expertise in enterprise database platforms, automation‑driven migrations, governance‑led execution, and close coordination with application, middleware, and infrastructure teams in a regulated BFS environment.In this Role, You Will:Planning & AssessmentDevelop the overall database migration strategy, sequencing, and wave planValidate source and target platform readiness for Exadata and SQL Server VM environmentsPerform database discovery, dependency mapping, and classification for migration sequencingConduct compatibility checks covering database versions, patch levels, character sets, storage layouts, and connectivityIdentify migration tooling and automation requirements, including AMA readinessPrepare migration workflows and cutover approaches aligned to Wells Fargo SOPs, runbooks, and governanceMigration PreparationPerform pre‑migration technical checks for Oracle and SQL Server environmentsValidate and coordinate target environment readiness (DB servers, ASM/storage, clusters, network reachability, RBAC)Plan and schedule migration waves with application and infrastructure teamsConfigure replication, data movement, or export/import workflows per approved approachEnsure automation jobs and scripts are tested and governance‑compliantStage scripts, job templates, and automation artifacts for migration executionMigration ExecutionBuild and configure databases on target platformsExecute database replication, data copy, or migration jobs using AMA or equivalent toolsPerform backup of source databases prior to migrationMonitor data transfer, replication health, and execution statusResolve migration‑related errors impacting synchronization or readinessMaintain real‑time migration tracking and reportingCoordinate with storage, compute, and network teams during executionCutover ActivitiesExecute controlled cutover during approved freeze windowsPerform final sync, switchover, role transition, and database activationConduct post‑activation checks (listener, connectivity, instance health)Validate application‑to‑database connectivityUpdate migration trackers, wave dashboards, and cutover logsCoordinate with application teams for functional validation and acceptancePost‑Migration Handover & DecommissioningPerform post‑migration verification, including performance baseline and data consistency checksSupport hypercare and stabilization, addressing migration exceptionsAssist with application reconnection and downstream validationDocument migration outcomes and final signoffExecute source shutdown, cleanup, and decommissioning per Wells Fargo‑approved processHandover updated configurations, documentation, and final migration reports to operationsDesired Qualifications:Database Administrator (Oracle / Exadata / MS SQL)8–12+ years of experience as an Enterprise Database Administrator supporting Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server platforms in large‑scale environmentsStrong understanding of database architecture, design, and administration for:Oracle (11g/12c/19c) including ExadataMicrosoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) on VM platformsProven experience supporting datacenter or platform migration programs, including planning, execution, cutover, and post‑migration stabilizationHands‑on expertise in:Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMANSQL Server Always On, clustering, backup/restore, and replicationDatabase build, configuration, and hardening on target environmentsStrong experience performing pre‑migration readiness checks, including:Version and patch compatibilityCharacter set and collation validationStorage layout and capacity planningConnectivity and access validationSolid understanding of backup, recovery, and rollback strategies to support migration and cutover activitiesExperience executing and validating database replication, data copy, or export/import–based migration approachesStrong knowledge of HA/DR concepts, failover testing, and production cutover best practicesAbility to perform post‑migration validation, including data consistency checks and performance baseline comparisonsExperience working in regulated BFS environments with strict governance, audit, and change control requirementsHands‑on exposure to automation‑driven database migration or administration (scripts, job scheduling, tooling such as AMA or equivalent) is a plusWorking experience with ServiceNow, Jira, and CMDB updates as part of migration execution and operational handoverStrong documentation skills with the ability to produce runbooks, migration reports, and handover artifactsExcellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work closely with application, infrastructure, and operations teamsWork Environment &
