At an appropriate time (usually 2-4 weeks), appointment durations would bereduced to match standards for AVH neurologists, i.e., 20 minutes for establishedpatients and 60 minutes for new patients.Typical productivity (based on usual mix of new and established patients) will be 12 to 16patients per day. In general, 2 to 4 new patients per day.Time for interpretation of diagnostic tests (e.g., EEG) is provided. However,administrative time is generally not provided at the specialty practice.Locations of care/schedule (specific days of week to be determined by AVH at time ofnegotiation of physician employment agreement or commencement of employment,based on available space and operational needs at each site):AVH in Berlin: Monday, Tuesday, and FridayUCVH in Colebrook: WednesdayWeeks Medical Center in Lancaster: probably none on a routine basis.Best Fit CandidatesPrefer candidates have prior experience (at least 2-5 years) in broad spectrum of generalneurology.Selected new graduates from residency or fellowship training may be eligible.Prior experience in a small hospital or CAH desired.Must be comfortable with rural nature of practice/hospital, only one neurology colleague,solo coverage, and AVH’s complement of specialists and diagnostic testing capacity.Special clinical interests/expertise to complement those of current neurologist and expandscope of services to our region. For example, clinical interests/expertise in one or more ofthe following: headaches, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, extrapyramidalsyndrome, stroke, epilepsy, dementia, and EEG’s.Ability to interpret EEG studies desirable but not required.Does not need ability to perform or interpret NCS/EMG studies. Based on Dr. Starr’sexpertise in this area and capacity to perform and interpret more NCS/EMG’s as orderedby a second neurologist, AVH would prefer new neurologist does not have/need to utilizesuch skills.Ability to perform Botox injections desirable but not required.Team oriented, collaborative, and patient focused. High level of customer service (patientsatisfaction) is expected.H1-B and J-1 visa candidates will be considered if excellent communication skills.Job HighlightsSeeking a full-time (4.0 or 4.5 days/week) neurologist to join a highly productive,skilled,and popular neurologist at AVH and selected outreach clinic sites to help meet clinicaldemands for services and build a neurology service for North Country Healthcare(system of 3 Critical Access Hospitals). This physician replaces a neurologist whoresigned in August, 2022. Position has been filled partially and temporarily with locumtenens physicians since then.Provides office-based general neurology services to new and established patients(adolescents age 16 and older as well as adults), including medication management,education and counseling of patients and families, ordering diagnostic tests, referral torelated other specialties (e.g., cardiology, orthopedics, pain management,pulmonology, sleep medicine) locally, referral to subspecialty neurologists at tertiarycare centers, and communication with PCP’s. Most commonly diagnoses encountered are: Migraine Memory loss Essential tremor Parkinson’s disease Cognitive impairment Dizziness Epilepsy Multiple sclerosis Polyneuropathy HeadachePartners with other members of neurology team (e.g., neurologist colleague, radiologist,EEG technologists, MA’s and RN’s, physical therapists).Infrequently provides consultation for inpatients (0-3 times/week). More often providerscurbside often (unofficial) consultations to hospitalist and arranges to see patient intimely manner (<1-2 weeks) in office setting following discharge and/or specializedtesting.EMR: Meditech ExpanseRelocation Assistance$10,000 to $20,000 - Varies depending on distance of move, size of family, etc. Taxable.Housing StipendPotentially - Individually negotiated.
