This position is a permanent 1.0 FTE role within Sisters School District 6.Job DetailsJob ID: 5722155Application Deadline: Posted until filledPosted: May 18, 2026 7:00 AM (UTC)Starting Date: Aug 24, 2026PositionPosition Title: High School Social Studies / Language Arts Teacher (Permanent 1.0 FTE)Date Posted: Internal: May 13, 2026; External: May 18, 2026Date Position Closes: May 28, 2026Date Available: August 24, 2026Reports To: Building PrincipalQualificationsMaster's degree from an accredited institution (preferably in the content area).Valid Oregon teacher certificate with required endorsements for assigned subject(s) and grade level(s).3-5 years of licensed high school teaching experience in the subject area(s).Record of improving competency and teaching effectiveness through professional growth opportunities and professional learning communities.Record of making positive contributions beyond the classroom through involvement in clubs, activities, or athletics.Demonstrated commitment to inclusive educational practices.Commitment to a student-centered classroom that leverages students' experiences, prior knowledge, and cultural backgrounds to enhance engagement and elevate student achievement.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan, curate, and deliver a standards-based social studies/language arts curriculum that builds on students' prior assets and knowledge and ensures equitable and inclusive access.Establish clear criteria for student success with effective instructional strategies, practice opportunities, and prompt, actionable feedback.Maintain a safe, vibrant, and welcoming classroom atmosphere that empowers students to participate, reach their potential, and own their education.Communicate effectively with parents, students, colleagues, and administrators.Fulfill obligations under the SEA/SSD collective bargaining agreement and district policies.Complete required district, state, and federal training and apply knowledge to professional practice.Collaborate with colleagues to plan instruction and contribute to a professional learning community.Utilize support personnel to maximize opportunities for students, monitor their effectiveness, and provide direction and training as needed; supervise interns as needed.Provide direct service to students and families with unconditional positive regard for individuals from diverse backgrounds.Fulfills all other duties as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position may require supervision of volunteers, student aides, and educational assistants. All school employees support student supervision and a safe environment.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesInterpersonal Skills: Works well with diverse groups; focuses on conflict resolution, confidentiality, listening, and building a positive team spirit.Language Skills: Fluent English verbal and written communication; ability to respond to inquiries from students, parents, staff, or community members; ability to draft simple correspondence and routine reports.Mathematical Skills: Relevant skills for delivering content and calculating grades.Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense in following instructions; handle problems with several variables; proficient use of Google platforms; accurate typing; effective communication with students, parents, staff, and state agencies; good judgment.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Oregon Teaching License with endorsement and authorization for the assignment; licenses as determined by the District, including a valid Oregon Driver License and CPR/First Aid card.Physical DemandsThe responsibilities may require speaking, hearing, walking, sitting, and frequent use of hands. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds and, on occasion, up to 50 pounds. Vision and depth perception needs as described for the role.Work EnvironmentTypical school environment with occasional extended hours when workload requires; exposure to varied outdoor conditions; noise level usually low to moderate.Salary & BenefitsSalary: $50,442.00 – $93,222.00 annually (based on 2026–2027 certified salary schedule).
