JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition: Medical Assistant FloaterReports to: Operations ManagerDepartment: MedicalStatus: Full-time/Part-time/Non-ExemptClassification: PermanentEEO Code: Service WorkerDEPAUL COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS CORE VALUES:• Service of the Poor - Employee demonstrates generosity of spirit, especially for persons most in need• Reverence - Employee demonstrates respect and compassion for the dignity and diversity of life• Integrity - Employee inspires trust through personal leadership• Wisdom - Employee integrates excellence and stewardship into execution of job duties• Creativity - Employee demonstrates courageous innovation• Dedication - Employee affirms the hope and joy of the DePaul Community Health Centers' missionJOB DESCRIPTIONA full or part-time non-exempt position responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patientsby assisting with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a primary care provideror Nurse Practitioner.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES• Assists with the treatments ordered by primary care provider as supervised by primary careprovider or registered nurse.• Assist patients at the Front Desk with appointments, insurance and other patient related issues.• Interviews patients, measures vital signs and records information on patients' charts.• Performs select clinical duties including patient services, certain lab procedures, maintainspatient's medical records in an orderly manner, and reports abnormal results of any service to theprimary care provider as per protocol.• Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients including procedure room and keeps medicalequipment clean and orderly. Monitors supplies in each examination room. Maintains a neat andclean workspace.• Escorts assigned patients and fully prepares the patient for the visit which includes taking vitalsigns, completing the Health Risk Appraisal, performing in house labs , review charts foraccuracy, ensure diagnostic testing results and consultant reports are scanned in the ElectronicMedical Record, review health provider orders, administer medications, perform treatments suchas but not limited to breathing treatments, appropriately and accurately document the outcome ofthe treatment or intervention; assist health providers, consultants and patients as needed.• Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records and shreddingpatient information.• Performs basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking ofsupplies. Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment including cleaning allmedical instruments according to Lab and General Safety Manual.• Use Standard Precautions with all patients, specimens and equipment.• Use needle stick precautions with all patients, specimens and equipment.• Assist in documentation of incidents and untoward events and understands; participates in safetyprograms and disaster/fire delays.• Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.• Performs other duties as needed.PHYSICAL DEMANDSModerate physical effort required to include sitting, standing, walking and twisting/bending. Graspingreaching and repetitive hand/wrist movements are routine. Employees may be required to work differentsites as scheduled to accommodate the needs of various sites.WORK ENVIRONMENTPotential occasional exposure to low dose radiation hazards, hazardous chemicals and body fluids andwaste. Personal protective equipment provided. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS• High school diploma or equivalent• Completion of accredited Medical Assistant Course• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or completion of certification within 90 days ofemployment• Understanding of accepted nursing and medical standards• Excellent verbal and written communication skillsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS• One year prior clinical experience
