This position works for the Spokane Community Justice Center (CJC) The Sergeant (CO3) provides first-line supervision to the Corrections & Custody Officers who directly supervise referred individuals providing restitution to the community. Western Washington Workcrew assists Community Corrections Officers (CCOs) and the Courts with holding supervised individuals accountable through ensuring workers are provided the opportunity to positively change themselves and their communities by assisting with cleaning public streets, parks and schools as well as assisting non-profit organizations with their missions. Shift hours: Friday-Monday, 0800-1700. Duties Supervise Corrections and Custody Officers who supervise Community Restitution Work Crews. Provide on-the-job training and monitor completion of the on-the-job training requirements of in-training Corrections and Custody Officers. Evaluate employee performance and prepare evaluations, performance and development plans, update position descriptions, and resolve staff issues. Implement crew operations as outlined in the Community Restitution Crew Supervisor's Manual and Spokane County Work Crew protocols. Provide orientation and ongoing general training to all new and current Correctional Officers. Review and anticipate training needs and forward recommendations. Review and forward safety and injury reports and make recommendations and corrections as needed. Provide daily scheduling of Correctional Officers and authorize annual and sick leave as needed. Monitor and maintain Work Crew vehicle fleet, and exercise immediate decision-making regarding vehicle breakdowns and repairs. Supervise offender work crews performing Community Restitution projects. Projects may include cleanup of litter, illegal dumping and camp debris, grounds maintenance, janitorial, lands restoration and habitat improvements. Provide initial orientation and paperwork documentation/sign-up of offenders assigned to the work crew. Operate a motor vehicle safely to accomplish organizational requirements for work crew activities. Participate in the formation and maintenance of successful relationships with community resources and stakeholders. Professionally represent DOC in all communications with offenders, staff, stakeholders and the public to include telephone, email, oral, and written. Handle stressful situations that involve verbal abuse/hostility, which requires the use of de-escalation skills. Manage multiple priorities and meet timelines. Maintain open dialogue with the Community Corrections Supervisor (CCS). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Three years of experience as a Correctional Officer in adult corrections. And must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license. OR Two years of experience as a Correctional Officer in adult corrections. Successful completion of at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hours of accredited college-level coursework. And must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license. Desirable Qualifications Experience supervising employees in a correctional environment. Complete and pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation). Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy. Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
