In this role, you will play a key part in designing, building, and maintaining distributed, fault-tolerant backend systems with low latency and high concurrency. We are looking for an experienced software engineer with a strong background in functional programming, capable of driving architectural decisions, mentoring teammates, and collaborating with cross-functional global stakeholders.\n\nWhat To Expect In This Role (Responsibilities)\n\nDesign, build, and scale highly concurrent backend applications and microservices using Elixir and Phoenix.\n\nArchitect and implement resilient, distributed systems leveraging the BEAM ecosystem and OTP (GenServer, Supervisors, Tasks).\n\nDesign, build, and integrate RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.\n\nOptimize database queries and schema models using Ecto with PostgreSQL and non-relational databases.\n\nEnforce code quality, maintainability, and test coverage through unit testing, integration testing, and rigorous code reviews.\n\nPartner with product managers, DevOps engineers, and frontend developers in an agile environment.\n\nParticipate in high-level architectural discussions, system design, and establishing engineering best practices.\n\nRequirements\n\nExperience: 5+ years of software engineering experience in Backend Development, with at least 3+ years of active experience with Elixir.\n\nDeep proficiency in the Elixir ecosystem: Phoenix Framework, Ecto, and OTP.\n\nSolid understanding of functional programming concepts and design patterns.\n\nHands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and mapping tools (Ecto).\n\nDemonstrated experience designing and integrating APIs (REST, GraphQL).\n\nExposure to microservice architectures, message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ), and caching layers (Redis).\n\nNice to Have\n\nExperience with Erlang.\n\nFamiliarity with containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).\n\nHands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.\n\nExposure to Phoenix LiveView.\n\nOpen-source contributions within the Elixir / BEAM community.\n\nBenefits\n\n100% Remote position within the US.\n\nLong-term commitment with strategic impact on modern tech stacks.\n\nCollaborative, engineering-first culture with high technical autonomy.\n\nCareer growth path, leadership opportunities, and continuous learning support.\n\nWhy Join Coderio?\n\nAt Coderio, we value top engineering talent.
