The Lead Controls Engineer is responsible for providing controls hardware design, programming, debug, and site-installation of turnkey custom automation equipment.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\nWork independently on larger or high complexity projects and/or multiple smaller projects.\nTraining of new and/or less senior engineers.\nSet technical direction for multiple engineers on portions of larger or more complex projects.\nPeer Review of other engineers’ work for accuracy and thoroughness.\nDevelopment of overall machine Controls Architecture\nEnclosures: Standalone, Remote, Local\nI/O: In-cabinet, on-machine\nNetwork selection & distribution: Ethernet, IOLink, Hardwired\nCable/Wiring Routing: Ladder Track, Wireway\nDevelopment of overall machine Controls Software Architecture\nElements: Cells, Stations, Devices, Sequences\nInterface\nrecipe selection\nrecipe editing\nstatus tracking\ndata tracking\nreport generation\nReview customer requirements, PMD proposal, PMD cost estimate, and Federal, State, & Local requirements.\nAttend Mechanical Design Reviews to understand machine functionality, suggest concepts & componentry to meet controls & safety requirements, and subsequently incorporate associated Controls Hardware design elements into the Controls Hardware design.\nTranslate device list provided by Mechanical Engineering into Controls Hardware design elements.\nUtilize AutoCad Electrical for drafting.\nUse provided symbols & circuits.\nDevelop new symbols & circuits as necessary.\nControls Hardware Design\nAC Power schematics\nDC Power schematics\nSafety schematics\nServo/Stepper schematics\nIndustrial Network schematics\nDevice schematics\nTesters, Transducers, Laser Markers, Welders, Robots, etc.\nI/O schematics\nControl Enclosure layouts\nControl Panel layouts\nFluid Power Supply schematics\nFluid Power Control schematics\nBill of Materials\nInteract with Controls Build personnel to answer questions.\nAssist Controls Build Technicians, Controls Software Engineers, and Controls Engineers with electrical and fluid power debug.\nUpdate design as required throughout the project life cycle.\nUse provided standard code and device drivers, or use end-customer provided code and/or formats to create custom control & HMI programs.\nCreate custom device driver code.\nUsing control schematics, enter I/O into controller programs.\nUsing timing chart provided by Mechanical Engineering, program intended sequences into controller programs.\nDownload completed programs.\nCommission control hardware.\nDebug control hardware for out-of-box failures, intended design, and correct wiring/plumbing.\nDebug control software, including all intended sequences, modes of operation, special functions, fault detection, fault recovery, tooling return, and interface.\nParticipate in Factory Acceptance Test at PMD.\nParticipate in Site Acceptance Test at end-customer’s facility.\nOTHER DUTIES\nMaintain a clean and orderly work area.\nObserve safety procedures.\nAny other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations.\nRequirements:\nEDUCATION\nBS in EE, EET, Mechatronics, related engineering field; or demonstrated equivalent experience.\nEXPERIENCE (10+ years):\nwith 4 or more of the following Hardware Design skills:\nAutoCad Electrical\nNFP79, UL508a, CE, CSA standards\nPower calculations (AC 3phase, AC 1phase, DC 5-90V, Transformers)\nEnclosure Heat calculations\nSCCR calculations\nFluid Power flow calculations\nSISTEMA safety calculations\nTechnical Supervision (5+ years)\nand 3 or more of the following Programming skills:\nPLC Programming (Rockwell, Siemens, and/or Omron)\nHMI Programming (Rockwell, Siemens, and/or Omron)\nRobot Programming (Fanuc, ABB, Epson, Staubli, and/or Kuka)\nVision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, Matrox, and/or Teledyne Dalsa)\nIndustrial Protocols (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, EtherCat, and/or IOLink)\nTechnical Supervision (5+ years)\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES\nEffective verbal and written communication.\nAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures.\nAbility to work in decimal, octal hexadecimal, and binary numbering systems.\nAbility to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and to calculate scaling factors, proportions, percentages, rates, and ratios.\nAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.\nOrganized\nDetail oriented\nAbility to work independently, collaborate on a team, or direct others\nAbility to take direction\nCreative/Innovative\nTime management skills\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
