The Agency Nurse is to be responsible for ensuring the physical and emotional health and safety of each participant in Horizons Programs Inc. The Agency Nurse can facilitate requested trainings for agency staff as needed.\n\nIn this position you will:\n\nConduct DDS Medication Administration Certification classes and ongoing recertification classes.\nParticipates in ongoing training required by the Department of Developmental Services, Horizons Policies and Procedures, Employee professional goals and to meet the changing needs of the program.\nConverse with participants to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote socially appropriate interaction with peers and others.\nConsult with the Directors/Managers and carry out assigned duties.\nConduct other health related trainings for various parts of the agency or specific program trainings.\nHave the best interests of each participant as the basis of your daily performance.\nAct as a link to community, emergency, medical, recreational and service providers.\nEnthusiastically assist in carrying out the Individual Plans for each resident which includes instruction in independent living skills, social skill development, recreation, and community integration.\nEnsure programs are in compliance with all DDS Licensing and Medication regulations.\n\nFollow the policies and procedures of Horizons, Inc. and Horizons Programs, Inc. including but not limited to being a mandated reporter of suspected abuse and neglect.\nAttend and actively participate in designated in-service trainings and requested staff meetings.\nCommunicate with participants in a manner they understand, such as total communication and sign language\nAdminister medication as directed by the Manager in accordance with Physicians orders and DDS Medication Administration guidelines.\n\nBenefits:\n\n401K eligibility with a 4% employer match\nHealth, Dental, Vision, Pet, and Voluntary Life Insurance\nShort-term Disability and Life Insurance\nSigning Bonus\n\nRequirements:\n\nAt least one year minimum experience working successfully in the medical field.\nAt least one year experience working with people who are developmentally disabled, have autism, and exhibit challenging behavior is required or an approved equivalent.\nBe at least 21 years of age, have an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited school as well as a current, valid Connecticut Nursing License.\nMust possess a valid Connecticut driver's license and acceptable driving record.\nCertification in CPR is preferred or must be successfully completed within the first 30 days of employment (Horizons offers these courses to employees).\nCertification in First Aid is preferred or must be successfully completed within the first six months of employment (Horizons offers this course to employees - Waived for LPN and RN).\n\nFile application, a letter of interest, at least 2 work references, 1 personal reference and current health form prior to working.\nAn acceptable background check and nursing license check performed by Horizons.\n\nAbout Horizons:\n\nHorizons has been offering support to individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs for nearly 40 years.
