Deliver for America’s health agency missions and enhance lives for hundreds of millions every day.\nJob Description\nGDIT is hiring a Senior Java Developer supporting a Medicare Appeals/Claims platform to manage a development team comprised of application developers (staff engineers and subcontractor engineers), QA Testing Team (staff QA engineers and subcontractor QA engineers), and a solutions architect.\nThe Senior Java Developer collaborates with the Agile support team, Tech Lead, and the Operations team closely to ensure complete communication loops, proper status updates are given to the customer, and that work is aligned and running according to plan. This role is is expected to have command over all assigned development work, processes, and outputs.\nThis role is fully remote!\nThis role will require you to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and will require you to provide onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility. This investigation may review personal and criminal behavior, financial conduct, foreign influence, as well as other adjudications.\nResponsibilities:\nPlanning & Delivery\nPrioritize development work to balance feature delivery, 508 compliance, and technical debt.\nEnsure on-time delivery of software releases while maintaining quality standards.\nTrack and report project progress using Agile (sometimes hybrid methodologies).\nCoordinate cross-functional teams including QA, DevOps, Development, and Business Analysts.\nTechnical Oversight\nReview architecture and design proposals for scalability, performance, and maintainability.\nPromote best coding practices —standards, peer reviews, and testing discipline.\nGuide technology selection for tools, frameworks, and cloud services.\nOversee system integrations and ensure interoperability between platforms.\nSupport production stability by managing incident response and root cause analysis.\nProcess & Quality\nImplement and refine development processes (Agile ceremonies, CI/CD).\nMeasure engineering effectiveness using KPIs (velocity, defect rate, lead time, etc.).\nChampion continuous improvement through retrospectives and lessons learned.\nEnsure compliance with regulatory standards.\nEnforce documentation and traceability across the software lifecycle.\nStakeholder & Communication\nCollaborate with Product Owner to align on priorities and technical feasibility.\nCommunicate progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership and business stakeholders as proactively as possible.\nTranslate technical concepts into documented business value for non-technical stakeholders.\nRequired Skills and Experience:\nBachelors and 7+ years’ experience in application and/or system development\n5+ years’ experience with progressing responsibilities in software development environments\nProven ability to own end-to-end delivery, ensuring features are delivered on time, meet acceptance criteria, and pass QA without rework due to incomplete or misunderstood requirements\nProven ability to identify technical risks, dependencies, and constraints early and proactively communicate impacts to leadership and stakeholders\nStrong expertise in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript frameworks, SQL, Rest APIs and CI/CD technologies\nMust be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust\nPreferred Skills and Experience:\nStrong understanding of low code application platforms, tools, software architecture, design patterns, and best practices\nExamples: Micropact (Entellitrak), Appian, Salesforce, Pega, ServiceNow, Oracle, Outsystems, Mendix, OpenText, Microsoft, etc.\nDemonstrated experience developing and adhering to quality standards, including code reviews, definition of done (DoD), and readiness gates prior to QA handoff\nDemonstrated ability to challenge incomplete or ambiguous requirements and drive clarity before development begins.\n\n#GDITFedHealthJobs\nWork Requirements\nYears of Experience\n7 + years of related experience\nmay vary based on technical training, certification(s), or degree\nCertification\nTravel Required\nLess than 10%\nSalary and Benefit Information\nThe likely salary range for this position is $129,813 - $166,750.
