Job title: Medical Assistant - ClinicalMinimum Requirements:Medical Terminology TrainingCompletion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferredHigh School GraduateCurrent CPR certificationHigh degree of physical coordination, finger and hand dexterity and a high degree of visual, auditory and oral acuity.Desirable attributes:Team playerStrong interpersonal skillsStrong organization skillsEquipment proficiencies:ComputerTelephone systemsGeneral office equipment (fax, copier, paper shredder)Scope of Responsibility:Responsible directly to the Medical Assistant Lead. Responsible for all patient related clinical interaction. Responsible for operations of exam rooms, patient flow, scheduling, chart maintenance, customer service excellence, teamwork and office operations.Duties and Responsibilities:Medical Assistant/Operations:1. Ensures all patient/family members feel welcome by acknowledging their presence, smiling andmaking eye contact.2. Ensures all patient demographics are up-to-date and accurate at each visit.3. Ensures that all patients in the waiting room are kept informed about delays in scheduling.4. Ensures all clinical procedures are performed according to established clinical standards.5. Opens and/or closes office as needed.6. Maintains organized and clean waiting room.7. Maintains knowledge of insurance programs for referrals and information that is needed to provideaccurate payment.Clinical Duties:1. Ensure all patients are prepared for the physician, vital signs are taken and accurately recorded.Prepare growth charts and consent forms for immunizations and procedures.2. Ensures correct patient chart is in order and contains all information for the physician.3. Follows SWFP Medical Assistant Daily Tasks.4. Performs diagnostic testing according to standards.5. Preforms phlebotomy procedures, blood and/or urine collection, ear irrigations, procedures,documentation guidelines and standards as needed.6. Follows infection control guidelines.7. Prepares exam room with appropriate equipment, cleans and sterilizes equipment.8. Educates patient in preparation for lab tests or x-ray procedures and reinforces dietary instructionsper policies, and in accordance with age of patient.9. Performs labs: urinalysis, glucometer, stool for occult blood, urine pregnancy tests, etc.10. Performs daily quality control.Safety and Operations:1. Ensures all patient rooms are clean, properly stocked and ready for treatment at all times.2. Performs calibration of equipment on a scheduled basis.3. Ensures all equipment is clean and working at top efficiency at all times.4. Monitors and ensures 100% compliance with OSHA and CLIA regulations.5. Assists at front desk and related clerical duties as assigned according to practice guidelines.6. Meets all educational and competency assessment requirements on an annual basis.Scheduling:1. Schedules all patients per physician directions and according to the schedulingpolicy.2. Makes every effort to accommodate the patients when scheduling.3. Notifies patients of all schedule delays or cancellations by telephone, when possible,or immediately upon arrival in office.Chart Maintenance (EMR):1. Completes charts for all new patients as needed.2. Follows up on left message.Customer Service Excellence:1. Demonstrates service and professional in dealing with patients.2. Handles complaints received from patients and follows through to resolution.3. Communicates the status of any unresolved complaints to the supervisor whocan complete the follow through.4. Respect patient's privacy and confidentiality by adhering to established confidentialitypolicies and protocols.5. Demonstrates the use of appropriate responses to customers inquires and statements(i.e. avoids complaining to customers)Teamwork:1. Demonstrates a commitment to building a supportive work environment byMaintaining a positive attitude in the workplace and toward his/her job.2. Willingly cooperates with others, placing team goals before individual goalsand interest.3. Offers to assist others when work is completed without being prompted.4. Must be understanding, patient and tactful in handling patients, must conduct self sothat patient and family are treated courteously. Maintains patient confidentiality.4. Must be vigilant, alert, calm, and resourceful during emergencies.5. Must be willing to make reasonable adjustments in the work and time schedules sothat the patient's needs are met.6.
