Business Development DirectorAEC | Design/BuildLocation: Houston, TX preferredCompensation: $130,000 - $140,000 base salary plus performance bonusVariable Compensation: Tied to bookings, with flexible structureReports To: CEOAbout the RoleA growing architecture, engineering, and construction firm is seeking a Business Development Director to build and lead its business development function.This individual will be responsible for driving revenue growth, developing client relationships, identifying new market opportunities, and building a strong pipeline of qualified projects. This is not a support role. It is a high-impact, revenue-generating position for a self-driven business development professional who can operate strategically while actively pursuing and closing new opportunities.Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Growth and Pipeline DevelopmentIdentify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the AEC and construction marketsBuild, manage, and maintain a robust sales pipelineDevelop and execute go-to-market strategies aligned with company growth objectivesEvaluate the current CRM system, recommend the optimal platform, and support implementationClient Relationships and NetworkingBuild and maintain strong relationships with developers, capital partners, brokers, architects, and other key industry stakeholdersExpand relationships with existing clients while developing new client channelsRepresent the company at industry events, networking forums, and market-facing opportunitiesServe as a credible and professional external representative of the organizationSales and Deal ExecutionLead proposals, presentations, client pitches, and business development meetingsManage contract negotiations and support the closing processDrive opportunities from initial contact through signed agreementPartner with internal teams to ensure client needs, project scope, and delivery expectations are clearly alignedMarket Strategy and PositioningIdentify new markets, service opportunities, and expansion strategiesAnalyze industry trends, client needs, and competitive positioningDevelop targeted client acquisition strategies to support long-term growthProvide insight to leadership on market activity, opportunity quality, and revenue potentialInternal CollaborationPartner closely with executive leadership, design teams, and construction teamsAlign business development strategy with broader company goalsSupport marketing, branding, and market-positioning initiativesHelp establish scalable business development processes, tools, and reporting practicesQualifications15+ years of business development experience within AEC, construction, design/build, or a closely related industryStrong network within the Houston development, construction, and real estate marketProven track record of generating revenue, closing deals, and building long-term client relationshipsExperience in a design/build environment preferredStrong presentation, negotiation, communication, and relationship-management skillsExperience evaluating or implementing CRM systems is a plusWhat We're Looking ForHunter mentality with the ability to identify, pursue, and win new businessStrong relationship-builder with an established market presenceHighly autonomous, self-driven, and comfortable building a function from the ground upStrategic thinker with strong execution disciplineProfessional presence and credibility with clients, partners, and senior stakeholdersCollaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across leadership, design, and construction teamsWhy This RoleOpportunity to build and shape the business development function from the ground upDirect access to executive leadershipHigh-impact role with meaningful influence on company growthStrong earning potential tied to performanceAbility to expand market presence and help drive the next stage of growth for a growing AEC firm
