Summary ContinuedFor the first 8 weeks, apprentices work onsite in production departments for immediate immersion into the shipyard’s working environment and activities. At the end of 8 weeks, apprentices will report to their assigned machines in pre-fabrication, and begin classroom training and hands-on lessons to obtain their certifications. Throughout hands-on training, apprentices will be utilizing their earned certifications and skills to directly contribute to ship construction. All apprentices are required to attend and complete a mix of classroom and online training throughout the duration of the program.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and metWear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Learn cutting and grinding principles and techniquesReview setup sheet, drawing and specifications to determine setup procedure and dimensions of finished workpieceAlign, position, secure and fit parts and panels at machine according to the setup instructionsInspect, maintain and operate machines according to set proceduresInspect, perform necessary repairs and report all quality issues to supervisorMaintain written logs of daily operation as requiredMaintain consumable on-hand inventory as requiredMeasure and inspect workpiece for conformance to specifications and standards as requiredNotify supervisor of all machine discrepancies, issues and machine malfunctionsAdjust machine control parameters according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctionsMaintain machinery, equipment and a safe/clean work environmentAttend all assigned instructor-led and online assigned Related Technical Training (RTI) coursesPerform other related duties as required and assignedCOMPETENCIESSelf-managementThoroughnessFlexibilityIntegrityTime ManagementWillingness and ability to work as a team memberSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTYThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Education And ExperienceHigh School or GED Equivalent requiredWORK ENVIRONMENTEnvironmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke.
