The Associate Project Manager at Qualus is responsible for supporting advisory, engineering, engineer-procure (EP), and engineer-procure-construct (EPC) projects with a focus on high-voltage electrical substations, transmission lines, telecommunications, renewable energy (solar, geothermal, wind), electric utilities and large load industrial projects. This includes supporting all activities related to project scope, schedule, cost/budget, quality, communications, resources, procurement, and risk elements to optimize client service, quality and financial performance on large, complex and challenging projects. This role also involves cross-disciplinary coordination, client relationship management, and supporting senior staff. Occasional travel, including overnight stays, is required.\n\nResponsibilities:\nThe Associate Project Manager will support complex engineering projects across substation design, transmission, telecommunications, renewable energy interconnections, electric utilities and large load industrial facilities.\nWork with senior project managers and project teams including engineers, designers, and subcontractors in the coordination of project documents and drawings, ensuring schedules are met.\nSupport project scope, budget, scheduling, and change control throughout the project lifecycle.\nSupport procurement and construction activities, including managing site construction managers and procurement teams.\nEstablish and maintain professional relationships with our external business partners.\nSupport proposal development including scope definition, cost estimating, schedule creation, and vendor quote evaluation.\nSupport the coordination of overall conceptual design plans in the initial development phase of large load, renewable energy and battery storage projects specific to utility interconnections and/or non-grid connections.\nSupport and coordinate environmental permitting and land rights as needed with clients, agencies and staff.\nAssist senior staff with competitive bidding processes for steel structures, long lead electrical equipment and substation construction activities.\nReceive mentorship from more experienced staff on a wide range of technical and project management best practices and competencies.\nParticipate in internal process improvements and help to develop Qualus' project control systems and standards.\nWork with large load developers, renewable energy developers and other clients with support specific to schedules and cost estimates.\nPrepare and maintain project schedules as needed and coordinate with team members and clients on schedule impacts.\nTrack budgets, prepare regular project status reports, and conduct team/client meetings.\nGenerally, keep senior staff appraised of project status and report as needed to clients, agencies, and team members. This often includes facilitating monthly or bi-weekly team meetings and issuing meeting notes\nOccasional travel (1–2 times per month) with overnight stays required.\nMinimum Qualifications:\nThe Associate Project Manager is expected to bring entry-level knowledge of everything involved to complete a project design from start to finish.\nPreferred candidates will have a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering, Electrical or Civil Engineering is preferred.\nMinimum of 1-3 years of experience in heavy industrial scale electrical projects, including substation and transmission design or related technical area.\nStrong competence in applying theories and principals involved in project management\nStrong work ethic, common sense approach, and high attention to detail.\nCustomer-focused with the ability to work under pressure and manage shifting priorities.\nExcellent computer skills, Microsoft Office, and proficient with scheduling (MS Project or Primavera P6 preferred)\nExcellent English verbal and written communication skills.\nAbility to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and demands\nMust pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check satisfactory to Qualus.\nBenefits & Compensation:\nQualus offers a competitive benefits package for eligible employees, which may include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short- and Long-Term Disability coverage, Retirement Savings Plans (including employer matching where applicable), Flexible Spending and/or Health Spending Accounts, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), Parental Leave, Paid Time Off, and Company Holidays.
